Hello,
My name is Devon.
I'm a licensed therapist,
And I'll be leading you through this guided meditation focused on calming anxiety in an uncertain world.
This meditation is for the moments when the weight of the world feels heavy,
When the headlines feel endless,
The future seems unclear,
And when simply existing in today's world can leave your nervous system feeling constantly on edge.
Find yourself in a comfortable position.
Allow your body to settle wherever you are.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose,
And release it gently through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale deeply,
And exhale slowly.
One more time,
Breathe in peace,
And release tension.
Allow your breathing to return to normal,
And just notice how your body feels right now.
Notice if your chest feels tight,
If your shoulders are lifted,
Maybe your jaw is a bit clenched,
And your stomach could feel a bit uneasy.
Many of us carry stress in our bodies without even realizing it,
Especially in a world where it often feels like there's always something happening.
Another crisis,
Another tragedy,
Another conflict,
Another reason to worry about what tomorrow may bring.
And whether you realize it or not,
Your body absorbs that.
Your nervous system absorbs that.
It's exhausting to live in a time where peace can feel temporary,
Where rest is interrupted by constant notifications,
Where bad news is available at all hours of the day,
Where every time you open your phone,
There's another reminder of how unpredictable life can be.
So before anything else,
Take a moment to simply acknowledge this truth.
You're not irrational for feeling overwhelmed.
Your anxiety makes sense,
Your exhaustion makes sense,
And your fears are valid.
Because you are trying to process life in a world that often feels overstimulating,
Uncertain,
And emotionally heavy,
We have to be aware of those things.
Take another breath in,
And as you exhale,
Let yourself release the pressure to pretend you are unaffected by everything around you.
You don't have to minimize your overwhelm.
You don't have to pretend you are untouched by the heaviness of the world.
But what you must remember is that while the world may feel chaotic around you,
You don't have to become chaotic with it.
Pause here.
Let this sink in for a second.
The world may be loud and unstable sometimes.
It may feel divided,
Uncertain,
And frightening as well.
But remember,
You still have the power to create internal steadiness.
You have the ability to return home to yourself.
Take a slow breath in,
And as you exhale,
Imagine yourself stepping back from the noise.
Stepping back from the news,
From the opinions,
The overstimulation,
From the pressure to mentally carry every burden this world presents to you.
And remind yourself gently,
I am informed,
But I don't have to be consumed.
Tell yourself,
I am aware,
But I don't have to carry the weight of everything.
There's a difference between caring about the world and carrying the whole world inside your nervous system.
You're allowed to care deeply.
There's nothing wrong with that.
And you're allowed to do it without destroying your peace in the process.
You are allowed to be compassionate without absorbing every ounce of pain around you.
You are allowed to acknowledge uncertainty without living in fear every day,
Because the truth is uncertain.
And uncertainty has always existed.
The future has never been guaranteed,
And life has never been fully predictable.
But anxiety convinces us that because we cannot control everything,
We must fear everything.
And that is simply not true.
Take a deep breath in,
And as you exhale,
And as you exhale,
Repeat silently to yourself,
I will release what I cannot control.
One more time.
I will release what I cannot control.
You were never meant to predict every outcome or to solve every problem before it happens.
You were never meant to mentally prepare for every worst case scenario.
Your only job is to meet life as it comes,
Not before it arrives.
Take another slow breath in.
Exhale slowly.
I want you to bring your awareness back into this present moment.
Because despite all of the uncertainty in the world,
Right here,
In this moment,
You are breathing.
You are grounded.
You are safe.
Not in next week.
Not in next month.
Not in some imagined disaster your mind is preparing for,
But now.
Here.
And often,
Peace is found when we stop trying to live in 10 futures at once,
And return to the only moment we actually have.
This one.
So breathe deeply.
Exhale tension.
Let your shoulders soften.
Let your hands relax.
Let your body settle once more.
Just in case the conversation had you thinking about some uncomfortable things.
Remind yourself,
I do not have to solve tomorrow,
Today.
One final breath in.
And slowly release it out.
As you prepare to leave this meditation,
Carry this truth with you.
The world may be filled with negativity or uncertainty.
Life may continue to be unpredictable,
But uncertainty does not automatically equate to danger.
And no matter what is happening around you,
You can choose to meet it with steadiness,
With grounding,
With presence and mindfulness,
And intentionally sought after peace.
When you are ready,
Gently bring your awareness back to your surroundings.
Wiggle your fingers,
Move your toes,
Slowly open your eyes.
And remember,
You cannot control the world,
But you can protect your peace while you're in it.
Be well.
