Hi,
It's Carol here,
And today I wanted to do some tapping for the fear of those long,
Dark nights.
I was recently speaking with someone who,
As we're getting ready for our time change here,
She was feeling the anticipation of,
Oh my God,
The nights are going to be so long and dark.
And when you're someone who struggles with sleep,
That can be really scary.
And so we decided to do some tapping together on that.
And from that,
I decided to also create this audio tapping script for you because I know that other people are suffering with the same thing.
So if you would like,
You could start tapping along with me and we start tapping on the side of the hand point.
And repeat after me.
Even though.
The nights are getting darker and longer.
And a part of me is already afraid.
I'm acknowledging what is happening inside of me right now.
And even though.
The time change is coming.
And the nights are going to feel longer and darker.
I acknowledge how hard this can feel in my body.
And even though.
Part of me is anticipating those long nights.
And wondering how I'm going to manage.
Right here,
Right now.
I'm doing the best that I can.
So let's start with the first round where we're going to acknowledge this fear that we feel.
So top of the head.
The nights are getting darker.
Eyebrow,
And longer.
Side of the eye.
The time change is coming.
Under the eye and my body knows it.
Under the nose these long dark nights.
Chin.
A part of me is already afraid.
Collarbone.
What if I'm awake for hours?
Under the arm.
What if it feels like the night is never going to end?
All right,
Just take a little pause here.
Notice what you're feeling.
Now we're going to do the second round and we're going to focus on how disorienting it can feel.
The top of the head.
Maybe one of the hardest parts is not knowing where I am in the night.
Eyebrow.
It's dark when I go to bed.
It's out of DI.
I might wake up and it's still dark.
Under DI.
What time is it?
Under the nose.
How long have I been awake?
Chin.
How much night is left?
Collarbone.
I can't use the daylight to tell me anymore.
Under the arm and that can feel really disorienting.
Let's take a little pause.
Notice what you're feeling.
Maybe your body is simply looking for something familiar to orient to.
All right,
Now let's start with the next round where we're going to start creating something new.
So top of the head.
And maybe I can begin giving my body some new cues.
Eyebrow.
I may not always know exactly what time it is.
Side of the eye,
But I can remind myself that I am here.
Under the eye.
I'm in my bed,
In my home.
Under the nose.
This is nighttime.
Chin and I don't have to solve the whole night right now.
Collarbone,
Maybe I can find little ways to create comfort and familiarity.
Under the arm.
Maybe my body can begin learning that the darkness doesn't have to mean danger.
Now let's take a little pause.
Notice how it feels to consider that possibility.
Now let's do one last round.
I call this round I can take care of myself.
Top of the head,
There are still going to be long,
Dark nights.
Eyebrow and I don't have to pretend that I love them.
Side of the eye,
But I'm beginning to recognize that I have choices.
Under the eye,
I can create comfort and little rituals that support me.
Under the nose,
And if I wake up during the night,
I don't have to figure everything out.
Chin.
I don't have to predict how the rest of the night will go.
Collarbone,
A long night doesn't automatically mean a bad night.
Under the arm.
And whatever happens,
I can take care of myself.
Yeah,
So take a breath and gently let it go.
Notice your body.
And perhaps when you think about those longer,
Darker nights ahead.
Just notice if anything has shifted.
Maybe there's still a little bit of fear here and that's okay.
We're not asking your nervous system to suddenly love the darkness.
We're simply offering it another experience.
Instead of the night is long and I don't know how I'm going to manage.
We're beginning to create another possibility.
The night may be long,
And I know how to take care of myself.
Your body doesn't need to guarantee what tonight will look like.
It can learn.
Little by little,
That whatever happens,
You'll be there to support yourself.
You can take care of yourself one moment at a time.
Thank you for tapping along with me.
