Welcome to this guided tapping meditation when we're going to do some tapping to help our nervous system separate from other people's nervous system.
And what I mean by that is when we are sensitive and we are a helper and we have this energy of seeing other people in pain and wanting to help them.
There's nothing wrong with that and yet sometimes our energy can become mixed in with theirs.
We can become overwhelmed for them,
We can become worried for them and all of that is okay and loving until it affects our own well-being.
So today I chose to create this tapping meditation to help anyone who would like to create a little bit of separation between what is happening inside your own nervous system and what happens inside someone else's nervous system.
So before we start tapping,
I just want you to take a moment and notice the room that you're in.
Maybe during this time you put your hands on your heart and you just really ground yourself in orienting to this present moment.
Knowing that we don't have to change anything.
We might let our eyes gently look around the space that we're in.
We want to notice what is familiar to us.
We want to notice what is supporting our body right now.
Maybe it's the chair beneath you.
Or maybe you can notice the bed that you're laying on if you're laying in your bed in this moment.
And if you're standing up,
Maybe you just notice your feet on the floor.
And at the same time,
Can you just notice your nervous system?
Maybe your nervous system has been carrying so much lately.
Maybe there's someone you love who is struggling,
Hurting,
Sick.
Maybe they're overwhelmed or they're going through something difficult.
And maybe somewhere along the way,
Your nervous system learned that loving someone meant carrying what was happening for them.
So we're not going to tell that part of us that is wrong,
Right?
We're simply going to bring in some compassion and we're going to support this part of us that needs it.
And then when you're ready,
I want you to gently begin tapping on the side of the hand point.
And repeat after me.
Even though.
My nervous system may be carrying what is happening for someone I love.
I can understand why it would do that.
And even though.
Part of me may believe I have to carry this for them.
I acknowledge how much I care.
And even though.
I don't quite know how to separate their nervous system from mine yet.
I'm open to learning a new way.
Now move to the top of the head point.
My nervous system has been carrying so much.
Eyebrow maybe even carrying someone else's nervous system.
Side of the eye.
Carrying their worry.
Under DI.
Carrying what might happen next.
Under the nose,
Carrying the need to protect them.
Chin,
Carrying the need to make everything okay.
Collarbone.
Of course,
This is affecting me.
Under the arm.
Of course,
My nervous system is tired.
Top of the head.
I can care so deeply about this person.
Eyebrow and I can notice what this is doing inside of me.
Side of the eye.
Maybe there's tension.
Under the eye,
Maybe there's fluttering or watchfulness.
Under the nose.
Maybe part of me is always anticipating.
Chin,
Waiting for something to happen.
Collarbone trying to be ready.
Under the arm.
I acknowledge that this is here.
Now I want to take you into the second part of this tapping meditation where we're going to start understanding the pattern that might be happening.
So let's start again at the top of the head.
My nervous system learned to carry other people's stuff.
Eyebrow.
Maybe this is an old pattern.
Side of the eye.
Maybe it once helped me cope.
Under the eye,
Maybe being aware of everyone else helped me feel prepared.
Under the nose.
I can understand why my nervous system learned this.
Chin.
It was trying to help me.
Collarbone.
It was trying to protect the people I love.
Nerdy arm and it was trying to protect me too.
Top of the head,
Dear nervous system,
I understand.
Eyebrow,
You don't have to stop caring.
Side of the eye.
I'm not asking you to become disconnected.
Under the eye.
I'm not asking you to love them less.
Under the nose,
I'm asking if we can try something different.
Chin,
Just a little different.
Collarbone,
Maybe even 5%.
Under the arm.
I'll take 5% right now.
Now for these next few rounds,
I'm going to guide you into creating a loving nervous system boundary.
Let's go back to the top of the head.
What if they could have their nervous system?
Eyebrow and I could have mine.
Side of the eye.
What if they could have their journey?
Under the eye,
While I have mine.
Under the nose,
I can still be present.
Chin.
I can still care.
Collarbone.
I can still support them.
Under the arm without carrying everything inside my body.
Top of the head.
Leaving their worry with them doesn't mean I don't care.
Eyebrow.
Creating separation doesn't remove my love.
Side of the eye.
Maybe it actually helps me love them better.
Under the eye because when I support my nervous system under the nose.
I have more of myself available.
Chin.
I can allow them to have their own journey.
Collarbone while I still support them.
Under the arm and I can allow myself to have my own journey too.
In this next and final round,
I want to guide you in coming back to yourself.
So top of the head.
Their nervous system,
We're a team.
Eyebrow,
I'm learning to listen to you.
Side of the eye.
When you give me a flutter,
Under the eye,
Or tension.
Under the nose,
Or that feeling that something needs my attention.
Chin.
I promise to listen.
Color bone.
We don't have to stay activated every minute in anticipation.
Under the arm.
We can respond when there is something to respond to.
Top of the head,
Right here,
Right now,
I can come back to myself.
Eyebrow.
Their nervous system belongs to them.
Side of the eye.
My nervous system belongs to me.
Under the eye.
I can care without carrying.
Under the nose.
I can love without losing myself inside their experience.
Chin.
This may be new learning for my nervous system.
Collarbone,
And I'm willing to learn.
Under the arm,
One small moment at a time.
You can stop tapping now.
And maybe this is the moment where you put your hands back on your heart.
Or maybe you give yourself a self hug,
Hugging your nervous system.
And we're just going to notice.
You don't have to make yourself feel different.
Maybe just gently notice your body again.
The support underneath you.
The room around you.
And perhaps,
Imagine the person you've been carrying.
We don't want to push them away.
We're not disconnecting from them.
We're just allowing a little space between their nervous system and yours.
They can have their feet on the ground.
And you can have your feet on the ground.
Their journey belongs to them,
And your journey belongs to you.
And love can exist in the space between you.
Maybe ask your nervous system quietly.
What do you need from me in order to let go?
Even by five percent right now.
You don't have to get an answer.
The question itself can be support.
You can care.
You can love.
You can show up.
You do not have to carry another person's nervous system inside your own.
Even this little bit of separation can be support.
