This short 6 minute reset is suitable to do sitting at a desk or walking.
If you're sitting,
Allow your feet to connect with the floor beneath you.
Let your hands rest comfortably in your lap or by your sides.
If you're walking,
Allow your pace to slow down a little bit.
There's no need to stop,
Just soften the urge to rush.
There's nowhere else you need to be right now.
Nothing you need to solve.
Nothing you need to achieve.
Just take these next few minutes to pause.
Take a slow breath in.
And a long breath out.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Begin by noticing that you are here.
Not in your last meeting,
Not in the conversation you're replaying.
Not in the task waiting for you next.
You're just here.
Allow your attention to arrive at this moment.
What does it feel like to be in your body?
Begin by noticing what you can see.
Objects,
Colours,
Shapes.
Light and shadow.
Perhaps things that are close by.
And then moving your sight to things further away.
Let your eyes gently take in the environment around you.
Noticing without judging.
Without needing anything to be different.
Now shift your attention to sound.
Notice what you can hear.
Perhaps nearby sounds,
Perhaps sounds further away.
Voices,
Movement,
Technology,
Traffic.
Perhaps you can hear silence.
You don't need to like the sounds,
You don't need to resist them,
Just notice them,
Allowing the sounds to come and go.
Now bring your attention to touch.
If sitting,
Notice the chair supporting you,
Your feet meeting the floor.
Clothing against your skin.
Temperature of the room.
If you're walking,
Notice your feet contacting the ground,
The movement through your legs.
The shifting of your body as you move.
The air brushing against your skin as you walk.
Noticing physical sensations exactly as they are.
Now becoming aware of smell.
Perhaps there's a scent in the air.
Coffee,
Perfume.
Or nothing obvious at all.
There's no need to force it,
Just simply notice.
And finally notice taste.
Perhaps the lingering taste of the last thing you ate or drank.
Or simply the natural taste in your mouth.
Taking a moment to notice.
We'll now allow all of the sensors to sit in the background.
What you can see,
Hear,
Touch,
Smell and taste.
And notice the shift.
You've stepped out of automatic mode.
You've paused,
You've shifted your attention.
That simple shift can be enough to interrupt momentum.
Enough to create space and enough to reset.
Bringing your awareness back to your breath.
As you breathe in.
Breathe gently through the nose for a count of four.
Then breathe out slowly for a count of six,
Allowing the exhale to be a little longer than the inhale.
Let's begin.
Breathe in,
2,
3,
4.
Exhale,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6.
Again,
Inhale,
2,
3,
4.
Exhale,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6.
Allowing your breath to return to its natural rhythm.
You and notice how you feel.
Perhaps a little more space,
A little more awareness,
A little more steadiness.
As you continue through your day,
See if you can take this with you.
