Puppy Finds Her Way Home.
Once upon a time,
In a small village in the country of Guyana,
There lived eight-year-old Abby.
Abby lived with her mom and her dad,
Her sisters Grace and Amanda,
And her brother Joshua.
Abby loved animals.
She especially loved dogs.
She spent many hours at her neighbor,
Lila's house,
Playing with the new litter of seven adorable puppies.
After school,
Abby went over to Lila's house.
There,
She held the puppies,
Feeling their soft,
Warm bodies snuggling up in her arms.
Sometimes,
She even fed them milk from a small bottle that Lila prepared.
One Saturday afternoon,
The day before Abby's birthday,
Lila came to her house for a visit.
When Lila saw Abby,
She smiled,
And as she opened her arms,
There,
Sleeping in the nook of her arm,
Was a round little pup.
The tiny pup had a black shiny coat and a small brown spot on her forehead.
"'This is my present to you,
Dear Abby,
' said Lila,
As she handed the sleeping pup over to Abby.
Abby gently kissed the pup and whispered,
"'Thank you,
Lila.
'" Lila winked at Abby and went over to the table to eat a piece of cake.
Abby and her family loved the little pup so much.
From the moment they met her,
She was just so cuddly,
She was just so cute,
And because she was soft and warm and loved to snuggle on their chest,
They decided to call her Puppy.
As Puppy grew,
She began wandering all around the yard and then venturing out into the neighborhood.
She became good friends with Lila's dog,
Tarzan.
Puppy and Tarzan spent many hours during the day going on adventures,
While Abby and her siblings were at school.
Puppy and Tarzan went swimming in a nearby pond,
They hid bones in each other's yards,
And they chased after small animals in a field next door to Abby's house.
Puppy brought lots of joy and gladness to Abby and her family.
She was a friendly dog,
She loved playing with all the children in the neighborhood,
And she wagged her tail as she licked their hand when they came over to pet her.
She also faithfully walked Abby to school every morning.
This was a delight to all of the children and the teachers at school.
Puppy loved being with her family so much that when they went to church one Friday evening,
She followed them.
Puppy took the back street where there were no cars,
No traffic,
Or bicycles,
And she walked close to the sidewalk as she made her way towards the church.
When she arrived,
She went inside through the back door and sat down in a corner.
As soon as the music started playing and the choir began to sing,
Puppy rushed to the front of the church and began singing too.
It sounded like this,
Arooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo it was a fun game and began running in circles around the stage when the choir was still singing.
The chase was on.
When Abby finally caught up to Puppy and scooped her up in her arms,
Puppy began to wiggle around and this made Abby laugh in frustration and also in delight.
Abby took Puppy outside,
Kissed her on the head,
And told her to go back home.
Go on home,
My dear love,
Said Abby.
I will see you soon.
Puppy began walking home and noticed that it was dark outside.
The full moon in the night sky lit the way as she walked.
Puppy was not usually out by herself at this time of the night,
But she noticed many things on the back street that she had not seen before.
She explored holes and new spots and animals to sniff on her way home.
When she lifted her head,
Hoping to be close to home,
She noticed that she did not recognize where she was.
She looked around and then guess what she did?
She yawned.
All of the excitement at the church made her very,
Very tired.
She looked around and saw a coconut tree and decided to rest under the tree as she had done many,
Many times with Abby.
It will be best to find my way home when the sun was up,
She thought,
But for now,
I'll just take a rest.
So Puppy laid down under that coconut tree and went straight to sleep.
That night,
Abby and her family searched and searched for Puppy.
They called for her.
They shook bags of her favorite treats,
Hoping that she would hear the sound of the treats shaking in the bag and she would come running to them.
But guess what?
Puppy did not hear the sounds of any of those treats because she was fast asleep.
Early the next morning,
Tarzan went for an early morning walk.
He liked rolling on the dew on the grass and then rubbing his body on coconut trees afterwards.
As he was walking by the coconut farm,
He noticed something familiar.
Tarzan noticed Puppy fast asleep under the coconut tree.
He rushed over to the tree and began to bark.
It was like he was saying,
Hey Puppy,
Puppy,
Wake up.
Puppy,
Are you okay?
We've been looking everywhere for you.
Abby and her family and the whole village is getting ready to search for you.
Puppy opened her eyes and saw her friend Tarzan and barked back in excitement.
She was so happy to see her friend.
Plus she felt safe knowing that her friend Tarzan knew the way home.
Puppy and Tarzan rolled on the ground playing for a few minutes.
Then Tarzan began running towards home and Puppy followed him.
Puppy ran as fast as she could as she was making her way home to Abby.
That morning,
Abby sat by the table looking at her pancakes that her mom had made for her.
Abby loved pancakes but did not have an appetite for them this morning.
She was missing Puppy.
She raised her head looking up at the lush field across from where she lived and as she was daydreaming about her sweet pup,
She heard a gentle Roof.
Abby looked over to her mom and said,
Did you hear that mom?
But before her mom could answer,
She heard that sound again.
Roof!
Roof!
It was louder this time.
And when she looked up to her surprise,
She saw Puppy and Tarzan running as fast as they could across the green pasture.
She began saying,
Puppy!
Puppy!
Mom!
Puppy is here!
She ran down the stairs and out of the yard and straight towards Puppy.
She got down on her knees when they were close to one another and Puppy leapt into her arms.
They both hugged each other.
Her face was wet with tears and also from dog kisses.
Puppy was back home with her family.
She was back home with Abby and Amanda and Grace and Josh and with Abby's mom and dad and Tarzan and all the people who loved her so much.
The next day,
After walking Abby to school,
Puppy and Tarzan ran home together,
Chasing chickens and squirrels along the way and looking forward to the afternoon when Abby was going to come home to play with her.
This is the end of this story,
My dear one.
I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you are fast asleep by now.
But if you're awake,
I have a question for you.
Do you have a pet or do you have someone special that you really love?
Think about them for a moment and feel the love that you have for them in your heart and with a gentle smile on your face,
Let's take a deep breath in and a gentle deep breath out.
Release it all the way out,
My love.
And let's do one more.
Take a deep breath all the way in and deep breath all the way out.
Now that the story is over,
I wish you well,
My darling.
Please close your eyes,
Listen to the music as you sail further and further into sleep and may you have sweet dreams.
And I will see you again for the next story.
Have a beautiful sleep,
My love.
Good night.
I love you.
