This session is only for information purposes only.
I have some enquiry questions for you so that you can figure out what it is what you deal with with your perfectionism,
If that's the case.
So we have this long life pattern and it actually determines how we think,
Feel,
Act and relate to each other.
And it can be massive,
It can be small,
It can be insidious,
But it becomes part of our life.
And today I want to focus on perfectionism,
Which can be a life trap,
Right?
And can you sit down comfortably right now,
Perhaps even close your eyes,
And just listen to what I have to say and really feel if you resonate with what I'm sharing.
Perhaps not all,
Perhaps some bits,
But feel where your body where you're like,
Yes,
I can relate.
With perfectionism,
Do you strive relentlessly to meet extremely high expectations of yourself?
Do you place emphasis on status,
Money,
Achievement,
Beauty,
Order of recognition at the expense of happiness?
Or do you even pay for your perfectionism with pleasure,
Health and a sense of accomplishment and satisfying relationships?
Do you have standards which other people cannot meet up to?
Perhaps you're judgemental.
And when you were a child,
Were you expected to be the best,
And you thought that everything else was a failure?
Maybe you learned that nothing you did was quite good enough?
Do you have this belief that you have to be perfect at whatever you do?
You place unrealistic expectations on yourself or others.
And do you have troubles relaxing and taking pleasure in life?
And last one,
Do you feel a great deal of pressure,
Anxiety in your daily life?
And often obsess about the next thing you have to do?
Okay,
Let's breathe that negativity in.
And let that go for now.
Another deep breath in through the nose.
With a loud out breath through your mouth,
Let that perfectionism go for now,
What I just shared.
One more deep breath in.
And I have another round of this,
And this might be quite difficult.
Emotionally,
It might be quite heavy.
I promise after that we are going to have a lovely meditation.
And I'm going to ask you again,
Sit comfortably,
And you might want to close your eyes,
And listen to the following,
And see if your body can resonate or relate.
Perhaps your perfectionism stems from a parent's love for you which was conditional.
So for example,
You were only loved when you met high standards as a child,
When you got good grades or you won a medal.
Or perhaps a parent only gave you affection,
Approval or attention when you were successful or perfect as a child.
Perhaps one or both parents were models of high unbalanced standards.
Maybe one or both parents or caregivers used shame or criticism when you failed to meet their high expectations as a child.
Or a parent or a caregiver was in the military or something similar and had very rigid rules of how things should be in everyday life.
Take that in.
And we're now going to let that negativity out,
Okay?
Where you can breathe in through the nose,
And then pause,
And then breathe out with your mouth wide open and your tongue sticking out and making a loud noise.
So you can breathe in.
Pause,
And let that go.
Breathe in.
Pause,
And let that go.
One more,
Deep breath in.
Pause,
And let that go.
Excellent.
And we are now going to dive deeper into our meditation,
Deeper into our bodies.
And move into that body and feel what emotions you are experiencing right now.
And you might want to place your right hand on your heart and your left hand over your hand and really feel and experience those emotions.
And I actually want to show you some compassion.
And I hope you can do that for yourself.
It's okay how you are feeling.
It's okay that things are difficult.
And I'm sorry that you struggle with perfectionism.
That must be hard for you.
And can you state out loud,
I am doing my best.
I am perfectly imperfect.
I am working on my perfectionism.
I am allowed to make mistakes.
You can let that go.
Take another deep breath in through the nose.
And breathe out through the mouth.
And can you now shift and try to feel and see an image of what your life would be like without these pressures and high standards.
So how would your life look like when you didn't deal with perfectionism?
And more importantly,
How do you feel?
Do you feel free,
Happy,
Calm,
Trusting?
Do you feel easy or loved?
And does that make you smile?
Maybe you are smiling right now in the meditation.
And in this visualization of you not being a perfectionist,
How would people act and be around you?
How would your daily life be?
How would work go?
Really see and feel this.
And can you thank yourself for being here in this meditation and taking time for you?
I am grateful that you started the journey to work on your perfectionism.
Is there something you are grateful for today?
You can take another deep breath in through the nose and let it all out through the mouth.
And ask yourself one more time.
How am I feeling and did it change?
And you can slowly move around,
Open your eyes and come back.
