Welcome to Yoga Nidra,
The practice of sleeping with awareness.
There is nothing you need to do right now,
Nowhere you need to go and nothing you need to achieve.
Simply allow yourself to rest.
We will now begin.
Find a comfortable position lying down.
Let your arms rest gently by your sides and allow your legs to relax naturally.
If it feels comfortable,
Softly close your eyes.
Take a slow breath in and gently breathe out.
Once more,
Breathe in and slowly breathe out.
Allow the body to settle into the ground beneath you.
Now bring your awareness to your right hand.
Feel the fingers of your hand,
The palm,
The wrist.
Now awareness of your right arm,
The elbow,
The shoulder.
Allow the entire right arm to relax.
Now bring your awareness to your left hand.
Feel the fingers,
The palm,
The wrist.
Become aware of your left arm,
The elbow,
The shoulder.
Allow both arms to relax.
Bring your attention to your face.
Relax the forehead.
Soften the eyes.
Relax the jaw.
Let the whole face become quiet and still.
Now bring your awareness to the flow of your breath.
Simply observe the breath moving in and moving out.
With each exhalation,
Allow the body to soften a little more.
There is nothing to control,
Nothing to change.
Just resting in your own awareness for the next few moments.
Simply be there,
Deeply relaxed,
Yet gently aware.
Relax.
Relax.
Relax.
Now slowly deepen your breath.
Bring awareness back to your body.
Bring awareness to the space around you.
And when you are ready,
Softly open your eyes.
And relax.
Carry this sense of calm with you into the rest of your day.
