This poem by Rumi is about the longing we feel to return to our divine essence, found in the quiet center of the heart. As we rest there in awareness, we experience a fullness that transcends all distraction, connecting us with who we truly are. Mawlana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi, popularly known as "Rumi", is a 13th-century Sufi poet. Today, he is recognised as one of the greatest poets who ever lived, due in part to how his words seem to speak to the Divine. Photo by Simon Wilkes. Translation by Coleman Barks.
