Takkesa No Ge | Verse Of The Kesa | 搭袈裟の偈 | Zen Buddhism
by Tom van Dijk
Tekkesa no Ge 搭袈裟の偈 or the Kesa sutra is an ode to the Buddha's robe or (o)kesa. Before putting on the kesa, we place it above us, on our head, reciting the Takkesa no Ge three times. || Japanese text: dai sai gedap-puku 大哉解脱服 | musō fuku den'e 無相福田衣 | hibu nyorai kyo 披奉如來教 | kōdo shoshu jo 廣度諸衆生 || English translation: Vast is the robe of liberation | The formless Field of Benefaction | I wear the Tathagata's Teaching | Saving all Sentient Beings.
