Taiko Hoku Japanese Drum Played In Zen Buddhist Monastery
by Tom van Dijk
Japanese Zen buddhist taiko hoku Drum. This style of drumming is typical in Japanese Rinzai Zen monasteries. I recorded this when drumming in Sogenji Zen temple in 2014. I used to be part of the drum crew for a couple of years. It could be pretty heavy, especially during hot summers. Usually, the Taiko Hoku drum is done before a special festival or teisho (lecture) of the roshi (Zen master). Picture: Wikipedia commons
