In tonight's enchanted bedtime tale,
You meet Oliver,
A curious golden puppy who spends a magical afternoon exploring the cozy library at the Haven Shop.
Along the way,
He reminds everyone that the greatest joys are often found in simple moments,
New friendships,
And seeing the world with wonder.
The Haven Shop is a fantasy bedtime story series.
That will reconnect you with your inner magic.
As you dwell in the sacred space between waking and sleep.
My name is Andrea and I am deeply honored to be part of your Sacred Bedtime Ritual.
Welcome back to The Haven Shop.
Its magical residents have been patiently waiting for your return.
Find a comfortable position.
And allow the day to slip gently out of focus.
If a few lingering thoughts decide to follow along,
That's perfectly all right.
They'll naturally grow quieter as our time together unfolds.
Jen wrote tonight's bedtime tale as a reminder of something we often forget as adults.
That there is wisdom in seeing the world with fresh eyes.
Somewhere along the way,
It's easy to stop noticing the little moments that brighten our days.
Tonight's story is an invitation to slow down.
Rediscover your sense of wonder.
And remember that joy is often found in the simplest things.
From here on.
The only thing you need to do.
Is relax.
And enjoy tonight's story.
The familiar chimes above the door of the Haven shop play their gentle melody as you step inside.
And right away,
The comforting world beyond the threshold welcomes you.
The warm scent of cedar shelves,
Old books,
Dried oranges,
And freshly brewed tea drift through the air.
Sunlight pours through the oversized bay window.
Casting a soft golden rectangle across the wide wooden floor.
While somewhere deeper in the shop.
A crackling fire.
Lends a quiet rhythm to the afternoon.
Everything feels exactly as you remember.
Peaceful and unhurried.
As if time itself slows the moment you enter.
From somewhere beyond the bookcases comes a sound you've never heard in the shop before.
The tap,
Tap,
Tapping of little paws.
A fluffy,
Golden-coloured puppy.
Tumbles around the corner.
Not quite running.
And not quite walking.
More like enthusiastically trying to do both at the same time.
Its oversized paws seem just a bit too large for the rest of its body.
Causing it to wobble ever so slightly before regaining its balance without the slightest concern.
Cream colored ears.
Bounce with every step.
And a feathery tail swishes back and forth so happily that the rest of the puppy seems to wag along with it.
The little pup slows as it reaches you.
And tilts its head.
Its dark eyes study you for one thoughtful moment.
Then as though it has reached a very important conclusion.
It walks directly to your feet.
Sits carefully on one of your shoes.
And looks up at you with complete certainty.
You can't help but smile.
Well,
Aurora says,
With a quiet laugh from behind the counter.
I believe you've been chosen.
You look up to find both sisters watching the scene with amused expressions.
Jadis folds her arms,
Unable to hide her smile.
We're watching him for a friend this afternoon.
His name is Oliver.
Oliver lets out a tiny,
Happy sigh.
Before leaning gently against your leg.
He seems quite certain he already knows you.
You reach down,
Offering the back of your hand.
Oliver gives it one careful sniff.
Then another.
His little nose is cool and velvety against your skin.
Apparently satisfied,
He nudges your hand until your fingers find the soft fur behind his ears.
It is impossibly silky.
And warm from the afternoon sun.
Oliver closes his eyes for the briefest moment,
Enjoying every gentle scratch.
As though it might be the nicest thing that has ever happened.
Jadus chuckles softly.
He has a remarkable talent for making everyone feel like his favorite person.
Before you can say another word,
Oliver stands,
Stretches dramatically from nose to tail.
And ambles happily toward the library.
Halfway there.
He remembers you're still standing near the entrance.
He turns.
Looks at you.
And weights.
He gives one tiny hopeful wag.
Aurora smiles knowingly.
I think that's your invitation.
You laugh quietly and follow.
Sometime in the library does sound good.
Oliver resumes his determined little trot.
Glancing over his shoulder every few steps,
Just to make sure you're still there.
The library is especially beautiful this afternoon.
Tall shelves stretch toward the ceiling,
Filled with books of every size and color.
Sunlight filters through tall windows,
Overlooking the gardens where dragonflies drift lazily among the wildflowers.
A gentle breeze carries the scent of pine through the open window,
Stirring the linen curtains ever so slightly.
Nearby sits your favorite oversized reading chair.
Upholstered in soft,
Moss-green fabric.
That seems to invite anyone passing by to stay a while.
Oliver heads there immediately.
Then stops.
A black tail appears from beneath the chair.
Layla,
The elegant black cat,
Emerges with the quiet confidence only she possesses.
Her emerald eyes settle upon Oliver.
Who remains frozen in his tracks.
His ears lift with curiosity.
Neither of them moves.
The room becomes wonderfully still.
Finally.
Oliver takes one careful step forward.
Layla calmly takes one graceful step backward.
Oliver pauses and tilts his head.
Layla blinks once.
Another cautious step.
Another elegant retreat.
And with a slight hint of annoyance,
Layla hops on to the seat of the chair.
Oliver watches as she continues to higher ground.
First,
The armrest.
Then onto a nearby bookshelf with effortless grace.
From her new perch,
She curls her tail neatly around her paw.
And continues observing the fluffy newcomer below.
Oliver remains exactly where he is.
Then,
After a thoughtful moment,
He sits.
His tail gives one gentle thump against the rug.
He seems perfectly content,
Simply looking up at her.
Aurora smiles.
Layla likes to understand someone before deciding how close she'd like them to be.
The puppy gives another hopeful wag.
And lay my answers with a slow blink.
Jadus nods.
That,
She says quietly,
Is progress.
A quiet feeling of satisfaction settles over the little circle gathered on the library rug.
N.
With a knowing smile.
Aurora rises and disappears for a moment.
Before returning with a woven basket tucked carefully in her arms.
Aurora watches Oliver carefully inspect every toy in the basket.
The little puppy gives each one the same thoughtful attention.
The knitted fox receives a sniff.
The tiny stuffed owl.
Receives a gentle paw.
The cloth rabbit is carried proudly across the rug for a few moments.
Before being replaced by something else.
Equally fascinating.
Oliver wanders away from the basket.
His tail wagging enthusiastically as he explores yet another corner of the library.
In his excitement,
His fluffy tail gives a cheerful sweep.
And bumps the leg of a small round table beside a reading chair.
Resting on top.
Is a delicate porcelain teacup.
Filled with dried lavender blossoms.
The cup begins to tip.
Ever so slight.
You instinctively reach forward.
But before anyone can move.
The teacup simply stops in midair.
It lingers there for the briefest moment,
Balanced impossibly in the air.
As though it has forgotten which way is down.
It is then you notice Jadus.
She hasn't even looked up.
From the book resting in her lap.
One hand lifts,
Almost absentmindedly,
No more than the smallest gesture.
The teacup.
Drifts magically upright.
And settles back onto the table with a gentle clink.
You smile.
As you watch the puppy play.
Commenting that he seems to love everything.
Aurora laughs in agreement.
He has a wonderful ability.
To find something special in almost anything.
She reaches into the basket one more time.
And pulls out a small knitted ball.
Made from soft golden yarn.
This one might be his favorite.
You look at the little ball.
It appears simple.
Handmade.
The kind of toy that could have been sitting quietly on a shelf in any ordinary home.
But Aurora holds it gently between her palms.
The room grows just a bit quieter.
She closes her eyes and whispers a few words beneath her breath.
The spell is soft and melodic,
Almost like a song without a tune.
A small warmth passes from her hands into the yarn.
Along with a gentle shimmer.
Disappears almost as quickly as it arrives.
Aurora places the ball on the wooden floor.
The puppy takes one careful step forward,
And the ball rolls away.
His entire face changes with curiosity.
The ball rolls a little farther.
And Oliver follows.
The ball pauses,
Then takes off again.
Weaving gently between the chairs and bookshelves.
Oliver races after it.
His paws tap happily against the floor as he follows its path around the library.
The ball never moves too quickly or disappears around corners.
It simply invites him to play.
And Oliver accepts the invitation completely.
He pounces.
Messes.
Slides across the rug,
Looking briefly surprised.
Then wags his tail as he tries once more.
The three of you laugh softly as you watch him play.
There is something wonderful about watching someone enjoy something so completely.
Finally,
Oliver catches the ball.
Proudly carrying it away.
Only to drop it moments later.
When a floating dust moat catches his attention.
All the while.
Layla remains perched nearby.
Her expression calm and dignified.
At least until the enchanted ball rolls under her chair.
Her eyes follow it.
Just for a moment.
Tempted to join in the fun.
Then,
She looks away with a huff.
As if she'd never been interested at all.
Jadus notices.
She smiles,
But says nothing.
After several joyful minutes,
The ball begins to slow,
Its little movements becoming gentler.
The tiny shimmer within the yarn fades.
Until it becomes an ordinary knitted toy once again.
Oliver doesn't seem to notice.
He simply walks over,
Picks it up,
And carries it back to you.
Aurora smiles.
The enchantment has finished.
She reaches down and scratches Oliver gently behind his ears.
It didn't create his happiness.
She looks at the puppy.
Who is now proudly resting one paw on his toy.
It only gave him a chance to express what was already there.
Jadus nods.
That is often what the best magic does.
Oliver lets out a long,
Sleepy yawn that seems to travel through his whole body.
The excitement of the game has finally caught up with him.
And after one last look around the library.
Had the books.
The sunlight.
The friends surrounding him.
He begins walking toward the oversized reading chair.
The very same chair.
Where you were hoping to spend the afternoon.
Quietly reading.
It appears Oliver has other plans.
Aurora gestures toward the shelves.
Would you like to choose a book?
You wander slowly among the towering cases.
And instead of resting,
Oliver decides to join you.
Following so closely.
That every time you pause,
He gently bumps into the back of your leg.
Before sitting politely beside you.
You kneel before an old collection of nature stories.
Oliver sits at your side,
Gazing at the books with complete fascination.
He has absolutely no idea what books are.
Yet because you're interested,
He decides they must be wonderful.
JADIS notices.
Curiosity,
She says softly.
Has a lovely way of spreading from one heart to another.
You smile and select a book.
Oliver seems delighted with your choice,
Despite having no way of knowing what it contains.
Somehow,
That makes the moment even sweeter.
Outside.
The breeze whispers through the maple trees.
Aurora settles into her favorite chair with a cup of tea.
Jadus chooses a nearby window seat.
And you carry your book to the comfortable mossy green chair.
The chair is already inviting,
With its soft fabric warmed by the afternoon sun.
It's the perfect place to spend a quiet hour with a good book.
But Oliver seems to believe there is one small improvement needed.
Him.
He places one paw against the edge of the chair.
Then another.
His back legs push gently against the floor as he attempts to climb.
For a moment.
His oversized paws and growing body seem unsure of the plan.
One ear flops forward.
His nose wrinkles with concentration.
You reach down and help him the rest of the way.
The puppy settles into your lap with a happy little sigh.
Lowering himself against you.
His warm body rests comfortably across your legs.
One paw hangs over the edge of the chair.
His head settles against your arm.
Almost instantly,
His eyes begin to grow heavy.
You gently stroke the soft fur behind his ears.
It is one of those simple moments that feels as though it was meant to happen.
The kind of moment you don't plan.
But remember,
Long after it's over.
The library settles into a deeper quiet.
A page turns somewhere across the room as Aurora continues reading.
Jadus sits near the window,
Watching the trees sway gently outside.
And now you are.
Layla has moved.
At first,
You almost don't notice.
The Elegant Black Cat.
Has left her high perch.
And now sits on the arm of your chair.
Oliver notices her too,
As one sleepy eye drifts open.
His tail gives a single welcoming thump.
Layla looks at him.
For a moment,
You wonder if she will return to the seclusion of her bookshelf.
But instead.
She simply closes her eyes and settles comfortably beside you.
The puppy lets out a contented sigh.
And returns to sleep.
Aurora smiles from her chair.
I believe that is quite an accomplishment.
Layla accepting someone new.
You smile down at the peaceful cat beside you.
Jadus chimes in.
Layla understands that trust is something to be built at your own pace.
She watches as Oliver sleeps peacefully.
Completely unaware.
That he has been carefully evaluated and quietly accepted.
A soft rustle comes from above.
Rex spreads his wings and glides down from his hidden beam.
The White Raven lands on the back of your chair.
Just above you,
And Oliver's eyes stir open again.
He looks up,
Making no attempt to move in his sleepy state.
Just sleepy curiosity.
The two study each other.
Then.
.
.
Rex gently releases something from his claw onto the blanket beside Oliver.
A single ivory feather.
The puppy looks at it,
Nose twitching.
He sniffs it carefully.
Then,
As though it is the most precious treasure he has ever received,
He places one paw gently over it.
Rex gives a quiet,
Satisfied chirp,
And you smile.
Did he just give him a gift,
You ask?
Jadus nods.
Rex is thoughtful in his own way.
He watches.
Learns.
And when he decides someone belongs,
He lets them know.
With everyone settled in.
The afternoon continues quietly.
You open the book you chose from the library shelf.
Its pages are filled with stories about forests,
Animals,
And the small wonders often overlooked by busy people.
But you find yourself distracted by the sweet new friend slumbering in your lap.
Spending time with this sweet puppy has become its own kind of story.
Every few minutes,
He reminds you of something simple.
The way he reacts when a patch of sunlight moves across the floor.
The way his ears lift when he hears a bird outside.
The way he senses kindness,
And trusts it completely.
He stirs briefly,
Stretching his puppy paws forward.
Yawning,
And then falling back into sleep.
There is no hesitation.
No worrying about what comes next.
No wondering if he should be doing something more important.
He simply rests because he is tired.
He plays because he is happy.
He explores because he is curious.
And somehow.
.
.
Without saying a single word.
He reminds you how natural those things once felt.
After a while,
Aurora closes her book.
Do you know what I find most interesting about puppies?
They don't need much to have a wonderful day.
She gestures gently around the library.
Today,
Oliver has made new friends.
Enjoyed a few toys.
Soaked up the warmth of a sunbeam.
And found a comfortable place to sleep.
And somehow.
That was more than enough.
Jadis nods.
People often search for complicated answers,
But sometimes the simplest lessons are the ones we forget.
You glance down at the sleeping puppy.
His breathing is slow and steady.
The warmth of him resting against you,
Is deeply comforting.
What lessons?
You ask.
Jadus thinks for a moment before answering.
Be curious.
Be kind.
Celebrate small things.
And when you are tired,
Rest.
The words settle into the quiet room.
Their truth resonating somewhere deep inside you.
A knowing that sometimes gets covered up by the busy days and endless thoughts.
As you focus on the puppy in your lap.
Your breathing begins to match his.
The rhythm of the room.
Becomes almost like a lullaby.
The Turning Pages.
The distant sound of breeze through the trees.
A soft breathing of a sleeping puppy.
Everything feels perfectly in place.
Oliver nestles a little closer,
Releasing one last sleepy sigh.
Rex's ivory feather remains tucked safely beneath his paw.
As though even in his dreams.
He doesn't wish to let go of the thoughtful gift.
Layla opens her green eyes for just a moment.
She gives Oliver one thoughtful glance,
Before settling more deeply onto the arm of your chair.
Her tail wraps neatly around her body.
And before long,
Her quiet purr slows into the peaceful rhythm of sleep.
From his favorite perch nearby,
Rex gives a gentle rustle of snowy white feathers.
Satisfied that everything in the library is just as it should be.
He tucks his head beneath one wing and closes his blue eyes.
Without planning it,
You've all found your favorite places to rest.
Your book remains open in your hands.
Your eyes no longer follow the words upon its pages.
Instead.
They grow heavier.
The turning pages become more distant.
The breeze through the open window whispers more softly.
The afternoon.
Grows wonderfully still.
One by one.
Your animal friends drift into peaceful sleep.
And before long,
You follow them.
Wrapped in warmth.
Friendship.
Gentle magic of the Havenshaw.
You drift peacefully into dreams of your own.
Good night.
