This practice trains a simple but powerful skill: the ability to move your attention on purpose. We begin with slow, diaphragmatic breathing, then narrow awareness down to small, neutral points, such as the tip of the nose, the left elbow, or the big toe, followed by a full-body scan. From there we broaden outward to the sounds of the room, the neighborhood, the town, and eventually the whole earth, holding it all in a wide, neutral awareness without judgment. We then narrow back in, returning to the elbow, the nose, and the big toe, before resting in the quiet awareness of the observer who has been present throughout. This shift between narrow and broad attention is especially useful for anyone prone to rumination or getting stuck on a single uncomfortable thought or feeling. Music by Silencio Music
