Dear friend, I invite you to this short story, about a man who was in search of the key to happiness and was ready to pay any price for it. He went from one teacher to another in his search but none could satisfy him with their answers. Then, one day he heard of a noble master who sat under a tree in a small village. The master without even uttering a single word taught the man a lesson on happiness that changed the course of the man's quest. This short story is a reference from a Sufi Tradition.

Once upon a time,

A very wealthy man was searching for real happiness.

He left his home for this quest,

Carrying a bag full of diamonds.

And he would offer this bag to anyone who would give him his answer.

He went from one teacher to another,

But nobody was able to satisfy him with their answer.

Then one day,

He heard of a great noble teacher who sat under a tree in a small village.

Once the man arrived at the village,

He saw the master,

His eyes closed,

Deeply in meditation,

Sitting under a tree.

He placed the bag of diamonds right in front of the master and said,

I am in search of happiness and I am ready to pay anything.

Here are my diamonds,

My whole life's treasure.

You can take them,

But give me the key to derail happiness.

The master opened his eyes and for a few moments looked at the man and then without even uttering a word,

The master did something.

He simply jumped upon the bag and ran away.

For a few moments,

The wealthy man could not believe what just happened.

Such a noble and well-known master has gone with his diamonds,

But then he realized what just happened,

So he started shouting and running after the master.

But you see,

The master knew every nook,

Every turn and corner in that village,

So it was impossible to catch him.

However,

The rich man was running after him and shouting,

I have been robbed,

My whole life's treasure has been robbed.

This man is a thief,

Catch hold of him.

This is no master,

This guy is a fraud and a cheat.

And he kept shouting and running.

The whole village started gathering around the man.

They started consoling him and said,

Don't be worried.

But he replied,

Why should I not be worried?

I have been completely destroyed.

All that I had was in that bag and that man has escaped with it.

The man broke down and started crying.

He was as miserable as one can be.

The crowd decided to help the man and went in search of the master and found the master sitting back under his tree calmly with his eyes closed with the bag of diamonds right in front of him where the wealthy man had placed it.

The man rushed towards the bag and jumped on it.

Holding the bag close to his heart,

He gave a great sigh of relief and he said,

Oh thank god.

The master opened his eyes and asked,

Are you happy now?

The man was speechless.

It took him a few moments to realize the lesson the master just taught him.

And the man replied,

Yes,

Really,

I have never been so happy.

My friends,

This story is a great reminder to appreciate where we are,

Who we are,

What we have in the present when we appreciate where we are and what we have right in the moment,

New doors open to us.

Thank you for being here with me wherever you are.

I send you my love.

Namaste.
