I Become You

This piece is inspired by the Sufi ceremony “Semâ.” It is the mingling of one’s consciousness with that of the Divine. This quest is not for the cosmos but in actuality a quest of opening one’s heart. It is to perfect love and greatness in oneself. Love depends on understanding and greatness depends on one's power to change. One stops overlooking the obvious fact that one who finds not God among people will find God nowhere else. For such the concord of the ALL is apparent to them, in all.

A ceremony of union,

A listening,

Drunken soul in yearning,

Stillness,

Yet swaying,

Whirling,

Spinning and dancing,

Every cell of my being in poetic frenzy,

Silent,

Yet in your praise singing,

Remembrance,

In ecstasy,

A spiritual symphony,

Your perfect love,

A longing,

A stab of pain,

I open my heart to you,

An offering,

The vastness of you,

Devouring my small me,

Breathing fire into a tiny spark,

Birthing over lightning,

There is no mystery,

Feelings of rapture,

I ascend from this mind on a pilgrimage,

First towards you in a devotional rhapsody,

Then with you I am born a million times new,

Then in you I die a million deaths,

Finally I return to my fragile humanness and my discriminations are adjourned,

I become you,
