We regularly live our lives as if the world were a static and unchanging thing. We get upset when something we set up breaks down, and take it personally when another thing needs tending to...again. However, the world is not static, but dynamic! This reading from, "Meditation For People Who Do Too Much" (Oct. 20th) points out to us that the alterations needed to "meet life on life's terms" are the very essence of what makes our lives so incredible.

Meditation for People Who Do Too Much,

October 20th.

Awareness of Process.

Time is a Dressmaker Specializing in Alterations,

From Faith Baldwin.

We often think that we are just about to get it together,

When life gives us another opportunity for learning.

Many of us have tried to treat our lives like our houses.

We've believed that if we could get our houses fixed up just the way we wanted them,

And then they would stay that way forever.

We have felt personally attacked when slipcovers wear out,

When a room needs to be repainted,

Or when an appliance breaks down.

We have set up our lives based upon a static notion of the universe.

We have believed that once-fixed things should stay fixed,

Whether they be our house,

Our job,

Or ourselves.

In trying to make ourselves and our universe static,

We've set ourselves up for intense moments of frustration and failure.

Our attempts to control the normal processes of life have taken their toll on ourselves and on those around us.

I am a process.

Life is a process.

Alterations are part of the process.
