So often we replace one addiction for another; We fix the drain from Workaholism with Caffeine...the upper from Caffeine with Alcohol...the effects of Alcohol with Excercise...etc. Indeed it's not the "What" we do, it's the "Way" we do it, that may get us in the end. This reading helps us examine our habits and encourages us to assess if we're making balanced and thoughtful choices or merely rotating between our addictions.

Meditations for people who do too much.

Exhaustion.

I use food and caffeine addictions to keep going when I'm too tired to get the job done or meet deadlines.

From anonymous.

No one has just one addiction.

Addictions come in clusters.

Frequently we use one addiction to support another or to mask another.

When our body is just too tired from working too much,

We use chemicals or food to keep it going.

When we're too buzzed up to let down after we've met a deadline,

We use food,

Alcohol,

Or prescription drugs to slow us down.

We have even used positive activities to support our busyness and our workaholism.

Exercise is good for us.

Unfortunately,

When we do it in a frantic way or when we use it to make our bodies healthier so we can work more,

Something good has become part of the problem.

We can use anything to protect our supply and allow us to stay in our addiction.

It is not what I do.

It is the way I do it that will get me in the end.
