Devīsūktam | Divine Feminine | Power Of Creation
by Larissa Roy
The Devīsūktam is a hymnal text that occurs in the 5th chapter of the Devīmāhātmyam. It is one of the most important texts in Shaktism describing the Goddess Durga/Adishakti as the supreme power and creator of the universe. The Devīmāhātmyam, literally "glorification or praises of the Goddess", constitutes chapters 81 to 93 of the Markandeya Purana. The Devīsūktam eulogizes the manifold manifestations of the fierce goddess (Devī, Caṇḍī, or Durgā), in her objective and subjective aspects. This hymn is very popular and is chanted every day in the Devī temples across India, during the morning and evening ritual worship. It is specially recited during the Navarātri festival.
