Hi everyone,
Welcome.
My name is Debbie and I wanted to record this audio because I have navigated my own share of sleepless nights over the years and I know how exhausting it can be to get through the day when you're running on empty.
As a nutritionist and a yoga instructor,
These simple grounding habits have really helped carry me through some demanding days,
Ease the toll of poor sleep,
And restore some sense of balance.
So whether you're recovering from travel,
Caring for a newborn,
Or simply going through a restless season in your life,
Here are a few gentle strategies to support your energy and help your body recover.
First is to prioritize deep hydration.
Exhaustion is deeply taxing on the body and dehydration only amplifies brain fog and fatigue.
So start your day with a glass of warm water and maybe keep a water bottle nearby you throughout the day.
Remember that heavily caffeinated beverages can further dehydrate you and spike anxiety when you're already tired.
Consider supplementing with mineral-rich beverages like fresh fruit juices,
Mineral waters or quality electrolytes,
And hydrating foods to maintain balance.
Importantly,
Try to completely avoid reverse osmosis or distilled water,
Because these demineralized waters can strip minerals from the body and lead to cellular dehydration.
So next would be to keep some nutrient-dense snacks accessible.
Because when you're exhausted,
Preparing complex food feels overwhelming.
So keep easy,
Nourishing snacks readily available so that you don't default to ultra-processed options.
Some great low-effort travel or home options could be things like fresh fruits,
Quality cheese,
Yogurt,
Carrot sticks,
Pumpkin seeds,
Quality cured meats,
Or something prepped like some wraps or sandwiches.
Next would be to regulate your system with pranayama.
Yoga traditions utilize pranayama.
To support energy levels and regulate the nervous system without relying on stimulants.
So each morning,
Try practicing five to 10 rounds of alternate nostril breathing or analoma viloma to ground and center your mind.
And then before bed,
Try five or 10 minutes of brahmati pranayama,
Also known as bumblebee breath.
This really helps to downregulate your nervous system and encourage a good night's sleep.
Next would be to.
.
.
Incorporate gentle daily movement.
So when you're running on little sleep,
Intense exercise is probably the last thing you want to do,
But avoiding movement entirely can leave you feeling more stagnant and lethargic.
So prioritize gentle movement to get your blood flowing,
Like a few rounds of sun salutation,
A brisk walk outside,
Or a short mobility routine in your living room.
This can make you feel significantly more refreshed and alert,
Even if it's just for 5-10 minutes.
Next would be to utilize short naps and legs up the wall pose.
So don't underestimate the power of a short intentional rest during the day.
Taking even a 15 to 20 minute nap can help you feel dramatically more refreshed,
Lowering stress hormones and supporting nervous system regulation,
Which counterintuitively actually helps improve the quality of your nighttime sleep.
Or legs up the wall pose.
So lying on your back with your legs extended up against a wall or with your legs resting on a chair.
You can do this for 5 to 15 minutes to encourage lymphatic drainage,
Relieve heavy legs,
And calm an overtired system.
And next would be to anchor your circadian rhythm.
To help your internal clock stabilize,
You want to get natural sunlight in your eyes and on your skin first thing in the morning,
Even if it's for one minute or five minutes.
And then throughout the day,
Aim for 30 minutes or 60 minutes of sun exposure.
In the evening,
Signal to your body that it's time to rest by limiting bright artificial lighting,
Dimming screens or avoiding screens.
And if needed wear some blue light blocking glasses.
You can wear those after sunset to support natural melatonin production.
Next is to eat blood sugar balancing meals.
So sleep deprivation heavily alters appetite hormones,
Triggering intense cravings for quick burning carbs and sugars.
So prevent the inevitable crash by building your meals around solid sources of protein,
Quality fats,
Complex carbs,
While minimizing mindless grazing throughout the day.
So try to make sure that you're eating enough three meals a day,
Ideally balanced meals.
Bye.
So targeted supplements for fatigue in the mornings,
Consider taking creatine.
It is one of the most effective supplements to help you feel sharp,
Clear,
And mentally alert when you are severely sleep deprived.
And in the evening,
Consider taking a magnesium supplement,
Such as magnesium bisglycinate,
To help relax muscle tension,
Calm a racing mind,
And support healthy digestion.
So next here would be to create space for less stimulation.
So when we're running on empty,
Exhaustion can manifest as a strange wired but tired state.
And paradoxically,
That's often when we're most drawn to nonstop multitasking or falling into endless screen time loops.
Pay attention to these patterns as they arise,
And whenever possible,
Give yourself full permission to slow down.
Put away screens,
Swap the digital noise for a printed book,
Or just a few minutes of quiet.
Resist the urge to do three things at once.
Let yourself do one thing at a normal pace,
And release urgency.
Remind yourself not everything on your to-do list needs to happen today.
So bonus tip here is to shift your rest mindset.
If you find yourself lying awake at night worrying about how tired you will be tomorrow,
See if you can reframe the time as a chance to deeply rest your physical body.
Practice slow,
Steady breathing and simply observe physical sensations without judgment.
Calming the mind in this way provides many of the same restorative benefits as sleep and prevents the stress cycle that can make fatigue worse.
So by leaning into these simple grounding habits you can protect your vitality and offer your body the grace and support that it needs during these periods of deep fatigue.
