Sound Bath Sessions 203: Carrie Choong
I met Carrie early Saturday morning at her apartment complex. As we walked to the room we were recording in, I noticed that kids were playing the adjacent pools and there was some landscaping in the area. Schools were just starting to go on summer/Christmas break (November) and so more and more kids were enjoying the sunny weather. Even though the space was enclosed, it was not that much quieter. Based on past experience that even the worst sounding space may just happen to work, we just started recording. I tend to like challenging tracks because it makes you focus and listen deeper. In this case, the various modulations between the bowls she was striking was able to direct my focus and ultimately my begin relaxation. This is a challenging track, with much noise- kids at the pool, and lawn maintenance. Somehow the background chaos matched the fragmented sequence Carrie plays. It is as if she played a soundtrack to accompany the noises beyond.
