Today I will discuss how to step into the new year boldly.
Any time is a great time to become resolute about your life's direction.
It doesn't have to be about the start of the new year.
However,
The energy and feelings of newness can lead to powerful changes if you take advantage of the momentum.
As you boldly step into the new year,
A powerful way to ensure you get started with your best foot forward is to write yourself a letter about your next year of life.
This offers you a way to create your future so that as you walk into the year,
You have laid a roadmap and can start seeing the path you want to take.
I've been writing myself letters like this since I was a teenager.
I'd sit down on New Year's Day and write myself a letter in the past tense about what happened in my life that year.
I would seal the letter and not open it until the next New Year's Eve a year later.
What amazed me is that most of the things in my letter either happened or something far greater and related happened in my life.
I invite you to take a few moments to center yourself before you begin to consider what you should include in this letter you will write yourself.
This letter will be an act of love to yourself.
Your words will be kind and gracious,
Giving you space to reinvent yourself and align with what you want out of life.
Now find a comfortable seated position and gently close your eyes or lower your gaze.
Take a deep inhale through your nose,
Sipping in the air,
Filling your lungs.
Then let it go and sigh it out through your mouth,
Allowing that deep sigh of relief.
Take in another deep inhale through your nose and then let it go,
Sighing it out of your mouth.
Take your third breath on your own this time,
Letting go of any remaining stagnant energy.
Allow your breath to relax and flow naturally.
Gently move your head from side to side,
Back and forth,
Feeling away any tension or stress in your neck and shoulders.
Just allowing yourself to breathe and release.
As you linger in this more relaxed state,
Reflect on the year you just had.
Allow images of yourself,
The feelings you felt,
Relationships that flourished,
Relationships that became difficult,
Things you achieved,
Things you did not achieve but wanted to.
Allow these things to pass through the forefront of your vision.
For the next 30 seconds of quiet,
Sit here in active reflection.
Now let the images of the past dissipate.
Let the feelings and stories you have tied to your past loosen and drift away.
As your body releases and relaxes,
Start envisioning what you want this year to look like,
Feel like and be like.
Keep your heart soft and open as you consider the future.
Remember,
You love yourself and you want the best for yourself.
Start by repeating these words to yourself now.
I love myself and I want the best for myself.
I love myself and I take good care of myself.
I love myself.
In this state of cultivated love,
Allow your heart to open even more.
Start to consider what needs to be in this letter you will write to yourself.
What is your heart telling you?
What is your mind agreeing to?
What things will have had to happen for this coming year to be your best year yet?
This upcoming year is a gift.
More time to be and do and give and receive.
You are the gift.
How will you share it with the world?
For these next 30 seconds of quiet,
Sit here seeing and embracing your future self.
Now let the images of your future stay at the forefront of your mind.
As you start to gently wake your body back up to the present,
Move your neck from side to side.
Wiggle your toes and fingers and gently open your eyes.
Time is of the essence.
Write your letter.
Seal it up to be opened next to New Year's Eve.
Namaste.
