Welcome to the freedom to be in the house Releasing the weight of responsibility.
A gentle guided meditation to help you release the pressure of always putting others first.
And to reconnect with your own needs.
I'm so glad you've chosen to give yourself these few moments.
Before we begin,
I'd like you to know something.
If you've spent years putting other people's needs before your own,
You found it difficult to say no.
If you felt responsible for fixing problems,
Keeping the peace.
Or making sure that everyone else is okay.
There is nothing wrong with you.
At some point in your life these became ways of protecting yourself.
Perhaps being helpful felt safer than disappointing someone.
Being needed felt safer than being seen.
Or maybe caring for everyone else became so familiar you forgot what it felt like to care for yourself.
Today we're not judging that part of you.
Simply letting your body know that you don't have to carry life that way anymore.
And so find a comfortable position.
Allowing your hands to rest wherever they feel most natural.
Perhaps one hand on your heart and the other resting gently on your belly.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And gently breathe out.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
With every breath allow yourself to arrive a little more fully in this moment.
Nothing to sell.
Nothing to fix.
Nowhere else to be.
Feel the support beneath your body.
Notice how the chair,
The floor,
The bed is already holding you.
You don't have to hold yourself up.
Just these few moments allow yourself to be supported.
Imagine now that the gentle roots begin growing from beneath you.
They travel slowly down into the earth.
Steady.
Strong.
The Earth asks nothing of you.
It simply receives.
Supporting you completely Allow your shoulders to soften,
Notice how much they may have been carrying.
Not just physically,
But emotionally too.
Perhaps things that were never really yours in the first place.
Now I'd like you to imagine yourself standing on a quiet path in a peaceful woodland.
Ahead of you sits an old wooden bench.
Beneath the magnificent tree.
Its branches stretch wide.
Its roots run deep.
There is a wisdom here.
A feeling that everything is exactly as it should be.
You walk towards the bench now.
And sitting beside it is a large canvas rucksack.
As you look at it now you instinctively know this is yours.
Or at least it is the one that you have been carrying.
Slowly pick it up.
Noticing how heavy it feels.
Feel its weight through your shoulders,
Through your back.
Through your arms.
Take a moment to become curious.
How long have you been carrying this?
As it becomes so familiar that you've forgotten what it feels like not to.
Now gently open the bag.
Inside.
Our responsibilities.
Expectations.
Guilt.
The pressure to keep everyone happy.
The fear of letting someone down.
The belief that it's your job to fix everything.
And perhaps the quiet hope that if you do enough you might finally feel enough.
Simply notice.
No judgement,
Only compassion.
Now ask yourself one gentle question.
Does every single thing inside this bag truly belong to me?
Perhaps some things do.
Perhaps many do not.
One by one,
Begin lifting out the things that were never yours.
Somebody else's disappointment.
Place it gently beside the tree.
Someone else's expectations.
Lay that down too.
Their emotions.
Their choices.
Their healing.
Their happiness.
Their reactions.
One by one now,
Allow yourself to put each one down.
Notice the bag becoming lighter.
And now imagine a warm golden light surrounding everything that you have laid down.
This light isn't destroying these things,
It's simply returning them to where they belong.
With love.
And without guilt,
Resentment or fear.
Quietly repeat to yourself.
What is not mine,
I lovingly release.
I no longer carry what was never mine to hold.
And now notice something beautiful.
Your shoulders feeling lighter.
Your breath feels deeper.
Your body begins remembering what freedom feels like.
Bring your attention now to your heart.
Imagine a warm golden light glowing there.
Gentle.
Steady.
It doesn't need to earn its light,
It simply shines,
Just as you do.
Allow this light to expand through your whole body.
Through your chest.
Your belly.
Your arms.
Your legs.
Your entire being.
And now silently repeat to yourself.
My worth is not measured by what I do for others.
I am enough simply because I exist.
I do not need to earn love.
I am worthy of receiving.
Now imagine someone approaching you.
Someone kind and safe.
They reach out a hand.
Not because they need anything from you.
Simply because they'd like to support you.
Notice what happens inside your body.
Do you feel yourself pulling back or wanting to say,
No,
I'm okay,
I've got it?
I don't want to be a burden.
Simply notice without judgment.
Now imagine yourself taking their hand.
Allowing yourself to receive.
Just for this moment,
Notice how different it feels.
Be supported.
Instead of always being the one supporting.
Take a slow breath and let your body learn this new experience.
Receiving is safe.
Being cared for is safe.
You were never meant to carry everything alone.
Now allow that image to gently fade.
Instead see yourself.
Sometime this week.
And someone asks something of you.
Instead of answering immediately.
You pause.
Take one slow breath.
You turn your attention inward.
And quietly ask yourself.
Does this honour my energy?
Does this feel aligned with what I truly need?
Am I saying yes from love or from obligation?
And notice yourself now responding calmly.
Without guilt.
Without over explaining.
Without needing everyone to understand,
Simply responding.
From a place of self respect.
Feel how peaceful.
This version of you is.
Grounded.
Gentle.
Free.
And take a few moments now simply breathing with this feeling.
As we begin to close bring one hand back to your heart now.
Feeling its steady rhythm.
A quiet reminder that everything you truly need begins here.
Take a deep breath in and out.
And slowly breathe out.
Silently repeat.
I choose myself with kindness.
I trust myself.
I honour my energy.
I am enough.
And begin gently bringing awareness back into your body now.
Feeling the surface beneath you.
Noticing the temperature of the air.
Wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Rolling your shoulders gently.
And when you're ready,
Allow your eyes to softly open.
Taking this feeling with you today.
Not as someone who has become someone new.
But rather as someone who has finally remembered who they were.
Underneath the weight they no longer need to carry.
