The poem "Recovery" speaks to the impact of over-giving and the need for more self-care for those of us who tend to fall into this behaviour. By nurturing our own self-love, we can shift from over-giving to setting healthy boundaries, allowing us to give more meaningfully and on our own terms. This transformation empowers us to reclaim our strength and find balance, ensuring that our kindness is met with the respect it deserves.

Recovery She gave and gave and gave and gave Her heart wide open,

Fierce and brave She gave when it was not requested Was True Blue totally invested?

Some grabbed,

Some snubbed,

Some contemplated At times quite unreciprocated She gave,

For that was what she knew Put others first,

Like good girls do The glue in all her close relations She gave her heart,

Her time,

Her patience She gave,

Though it went oft unseen Though their indifference felt quite mean They often took her quite for granted Until some wiser seeds she planted Within the rich and fertile earth The blooms of more self-love were birthed No longer over-giving slave Now only on her own terms gave Her heart was fiercer still and brave For she more roomed for herself made
