Hello and a warm welcome to Insight Timer.
I am Rahul Singh.
You woke up.
That happened.
Everything after that is still optional.
Before you check the time,
Before you assess the night,
Before the mind begins working.
Pause.
Do not evaluate.
Feel the bed.
That is enough for now.
Waking is one thing,
Escalation is another.
The body wakes.
Then the mind begins.
What time is it?
Why am I awake?
How long have I been awake?
Will I get back to sleep?
What will tomorrow be like?
And within moments,
Wakefulness becomes a problem.
So tonight,
We are not trying to prevent waking.
That part has already happened.
We are interrupting what usually comes next.
If you have not looked at the clock.
Leave it alone.
If you already look.
Let the numbers stop there.
Do not turn it into mathematics.
Do not subtract the hours.
Do not calculate what is left.
You do not need to turn wakefulness into a verdict on the night.
Even if you have woken more than once,
The rest of the night has not been decided.
And if you feel completely awake right now,
Let that be true.
You do not need to pretend to be sleepy.
You do not need to force heaviness.
You do not need to perform relaxation.
You are awake.
For now,
That is all.
If the first feeling is frustration,
Let that be the first thing you stop fighting.
Maybe there is irritation.
Not again.
Why tonight?
Why can't I just sleep?
Let the frustration be here without building another layer around it.
You do not have to become calm before you can rest.
Now feel three places where the body is most clearly touching the bed.
Perhaps the head.
The shoulders,
The hips.
Or somewhere else.
No need to search,
Just notice.
One point.
Another.
Let those places become heavy without trying to make them heavy.
Take one easy breath in.
.
.
And let the exhale leave on its own.
No special breathing.
No technique.
No effort to make sleep return.
The mind may now move toward tomorrow.
I have too much to do.
I need to function.
I cannot afford to be tired.
But these are tomorrow's concerns,
Arriving in the middle of the night.
Tomorrow.
Not yet.
You do not need tomorrow's energy now.
You do not need tomorrow's concentration.
You do not need to know how tomorrow will feel.
Do not begin the day before the day begins.
Come back.
Feel the bed.
Feel the weight.
Let one breath leave.
And if the mind asks.
Am I getting sleepy yet?
Do not answer.
You do not need to know where the sleep is coming.
You only need to stop checking.
Because checking keeps part of the mind awake.
Waiting to see whether sleep has arrived.
So stop waiting.
Not as a trick.
Not because you secretly hope this will make sleep happen faster.
For this moment,
Stop asking sleep to come.
Let yourself simply be here.
In bed.
Breathing.
But being awake right now does not mean the night has gone wrong.
And you are not replacing sleep with rest.
You are simply removing the struggle that keeps wakefulness important.
If another thought arrives,
Let it arrive.
No need to finish it.
If another follows,
Leave that one unfinished too.
The mind can think without you continuing the thought.
And if irritation returns,
Let it return.
If the same worry returns,
Let that return too.
Nothing has failed.
You do not need to keep anything away.
Just do not carry it forward.
Now make everything simpler.
No clock.
No tomorrow.
Feel.
Exhale.
Stay.
Again.
Feel.
Exhale.
Stay.
That is enough.
And now even less.
Breath.
Darkness.
Nothing to assess.
Nothing to recover.
Nothing to force.
If sleep returns,
You do not need to notice when.
No need to watch for it.
No need to meet it halfway.
Let the bed hold you.
Let the breath move.
Let thought lose importance.
This moment.
Is only this moment.
Not the rest of the night.
Not tomorrow morning.
Just here.
Nothing to fix.
Nothing to finish.
Tomorrow?
Not yet.
For now,
Stay here.
And let the night continue without your supervision.
