This short practice meditation uses mindfulness to turn off the stress response in your body. It can be done at anytime and anywhere you're feeling any big emotions in order to calm you down. You will also learn a breathing technique that activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which can be done at all times to help keep your body in homeostasis.

Find a comfortable position.

Close your eyes,

Release your shoulders from your ears and clench your jaw.

Remove your tongue from the roof of your mouth.

Pay attention to what you're feeling in your body.

Notice how you were sitting or lying.

Notice the feeling of your clothing on your skin.

What types of sounds can you hear?

See if you can notice any sounds close to you and can you notice any sounds in the distance.

Pay attention to what you can smell in your environment.

Notice the temperature of the air around you.

Notice your breathing.

Now breathe in for a count of four.

Hold for a few seconds and exhale for six.

Breathe in for four,

Hold for a few seconds and exhale slowly and evenly for six.

Notice if there is any kind of emotion you can feel in your body.

See if you can give that emotion a name.

And to finish,

You are safe.

You've got this.

All is well.

Open your eyes now and continue your day with calmness and joy.
