Grandma’s Kisses

Here's another Kelti story I wrote for my grandchildren. It's sometimes hard saying goodbye to someone you love. In this story, Grandma explains to Kelti a special way to always know her grandma is around. Thank you for your messages, kindness, and continued support ... each one is truly appreciated always.

Hello,

My name is Jacqueline and I'm a very proud grandma.

I write stories for my grandchildren and I'm very happy to share them with you too.

So make yourself comfortable,

Settle back because my next story is about to begin.

Grandma's Kisses Kelty and her grandma went for a walk in the forest with Duggee.

It was a beautiful autumn day with a little nip in the air,

But their coats kept their bodies warm while the sun shone down on their faces.

Grandma chatted about the different colours she could see in the leaves which had fallen from the trees.

"'Autumn colours are so pretty,

' she said to Kelty.

But Kelty wasn't really listening.

She walked along beside Grandma with her head bowed low.

Every now and then she would kick the leaves which made Duggee bark as he chased them.

Grandma looked over at her granddaughter who was normally so chatty.

"'Is something wrong,

Kelty?

' she asked gently.

"'You know I'm always here to help if I can.

' Kelty smiled a little.

She knew her grandma could solve most things,

But she didn't think she would be able to help with this new problem.

"'I'm going to miss you,

Grandma,

' Kelty whispered.

"'I'm going to miss you too,

Sweetheart,

' Grandma replied.

"'A little way ahead was a fallen tree.

Come sit beside me on that log over there,

' said Grandma as they walked towards it.

They both sat down and Duggee ran around exploring.

Grandma put her arm around Kelty.

"'You know I won't be gone for ever,

' she said squeezing her tightly,

"'and we can be in touch with each other every day if you want to.

' "'I know,

Grandma,

' said Kelty,

Snuggling into the warmth of her grandma's arms,

"'but it's not going to be the same without you here.

I like being able to do things with you whenever I want to.

' Grandma knew this and felt the same,

But going abroad was something she had been putting off for a long time and really wanted to do it now.

"'Kelty,

' she explained,

"'you are growing up fast.

You have your friends to do things with and will hardly notice I've gone.

Plus Louis is not a baby any more and loves doing things with you.

' "'I know,

But he can be a nuisance sometimes,

' Kelty said.

"'Most brothers can be,

' said Grandma,

And sisters too.

"'But why do you have to leave?

' asked Kelty.

"'I have to live my life too and be happy,

' explained Grandma.

"'This is an adventure I want to have while I still can.

I'm getting old,

You know.

' "'You'll always be young to me,

' whispered Kelty,

Hugging her grandma tightly.

"'Well,

One day I won't be able to travel and do magical things like I can now,

' replied Grandma,

Remembering when certain things had been a lot easier to do than they were now.

"'You can contact me any time you want to.

After all,

It's not as if I'm going to another planet.

' "'But you are going to the other side of the world,

' Kelty said sadly,

"'and the time difference you told me about will make it difficult to speak to you whenever I want to.

' "'That's true,

' said Grandma,

Thinking about this for a moment.

"'Then she had an idea.

"'I know what will work,

' she said excitedly.

"'Stand up.

' They both stood up,

And Grandma moved a few feet away from Kelty before turning round to face her.

"'Right,

' said Grandma,

Holding her hand out,

Palm facing up.

"'Catch this.

' And she brought her palm to her mouth,

Blew a kiss upon it,

And blew the kiss to Kelty.

Kelty caught the kiss and held it in her fist,

As she had done many times before.

Grandma always blew Kelty a kiss when they said goodbye to each other,

And each time Kelty caught Grandma's kisses she would hold them tightly in her fist until Grandma was out of sight,

And then she would let them go.

Kelty stood in front of Grandma,

Holding the precious kiss in her hands.

"'Now,

' explained Grandma,

"'whenever you catch one of my kisses,

Put it in your pocket.

' Kelty looked at her hands,

Holding the kiss,

And then put it in her pocket.

"'Here,

' said Grandma,

Smiling,

"'I'll blow you some more.

Catch them and put them all in your pocket.

' Grandma blew one kiss after another,

And Kelty caught every single one of them,

Giggling each time before putting them in her pocket.

"'Now,

' said Grandma,

"'whenever you feel lonely,

Upset,

Or just want to think of me,

Take one of the kisses out of your pocket,

Hold it tightly in your hands,

Close your eyes and think of me.

Try it now.

' Kelty took one of the kisses out of her pocket and held it tightly in her little hands.

She closed her eyes,

And an image of her Grandma came floating into her mind.

She smiled as she felt arms fold around her,

And a warmth that was cozier than sunshine.

"'I can feel you,

Grandma,

' said Kelty,

As she stood with her eyes closed and the kiss still in her hands.

"'I'm right here behind you,

Kelty,

' said Grandma,

As she hugged her Granddaughter tightly.

Kelty opened her eyes and looked over her shoulder into the eyes of her adored Grandma.

"'Remember this feeling,

Kelty,

' said Grandma softly.

"'This is how it will feel each time you hold one of my kisses when I am away on my adventure.

' Kelty smiled up at her Grandma and said,

"'I love you,

Grandma,

More than the whole wide world.

' Grandma smiled back and said in a whisper,

"'And I love you,

Kelty,

More than chocolate.

' This made them both giggle,

As it always did,

Because they both knew how much Grandma loved chocolate.

' Grandma bent down and kissed Kelty's nose and said,

"'Come on,

Sweetheart,

It's getting a little too chilly out here for my old bones.

Let's go home and make a cup of hot chocolate.

' "'Can we have marshmallows on top?

' asked Kelty happily.

"'That's the only way to have it,

' replied Grandma,

Pleased that her Granddaughter was happy again.

Kelty called to Duggee and he came bounding over.

They walked back to the house hand in hand,

With Duggee running behind them.

"'Grandma?

' "'Yes,

Kelty?

Will you blow lots of kisses to me before you leave,

So I don't run out of your cuddles?

' "'Yes,

Sweetheart,

I will.

' I hope you enjoyed my story.

I have a GiGi we love going in her bed she has a fuzzy mattress and her dog Lucy snuggles up she put the bed in tv mode because she has sleep number and we watch a movie

We make banana muffins

I talk a lot with grannie and she tells me stuff like how she found Riley the cat and how she and a dog named I think rowdy or something like that they liked to have their belly’s warmed by the hair dryer and when she turned it on they would come running upstairs to her grandma carol well we don’t really do much together not that I can think of right now but we also talk about stuff one time we knitted scarfs together then my great grandma Johansen we sometimes talk on the phone Then there is someone named dawn who is kinda my grandma but not exactly she is my dads first dads girlfriend I’m hopeing she will be my grandma tho. 😻 your story’s Jacqueline
