Guided meditation following the development of a plant from seed to seedling. Meditator is guided for 12 minutes step by step through each stage of incremental plant development, the last three minutes of the meditation are unguided. The intention of this meditation is to provide an experiential awareness of life force and becoming that is not nessesarily humanist but instead derived from observations of plant development.

I want you to picture that you are a little seed,

A small little brown seed,

Slightly irregular in shape.

You're a little broccoli seed.

Yeah,

So just a tiny brown seed.

You have some earth beneath you.

And you can just feel lightly pressing the earth down.

And now,

Start to notice moisture around you.

You're picking up a little bit of moisture that you're becoming more hydrated.

And it happens very subtly,

Very slowly.

This moisture starts to,

You start to absorb it from different points around you.

As that moisture comes in,

You notice that you're slightly swelling inside,

Slightly expanding,

Filling out.

There's more of a sense of fullness and at the same time,

More weight pressing ever so slightly back into the soil beneath you.

Now as you pick up more moisture,

You start to notice these little activated tingling sensations.

There seems to be some movement inside of you.

You're starting to take form.

And now,

I want you to picture coming out of your base,

A little root is forming.

And noticing that you want,

There's a yearning for more of that moisture.

Something about that that you want to follow and you notice there's an awareness that that moisture is beneath you.

So you start to develop something coming out of your root that's drawing up this moisture more and more of it into you,

Hydrating you.

And it's coming out of your root.

And with each breath,

The root gets a little longer and picks up a little bit more moisture.

And with each exhale,

You notice that your mass,

Your size is increasing.

Now you start to notice that there's this casing around you and you're starting to crack through it and open up.

You continue to breathe in and that root extends deeper into the ground and breathing out and this form that you're taking is becoming more defined and starting to open up and you're starting to feel air,

Starting to feel gaps of openness.

Starting to feel that casing sliding off as you expand,

Continuing to draw that moisture from the earth beneath you,

Feeling more solidly connected below and yet more movement and form being created above.

Start to notice more flexibility in your midsection as you're noticing more rootedness at your base.

And then you begin to sense some warmth,

Some warmth above you.

And this is a beautiful warmth.

You feel totally activated in a very new way by that and you want more of that.

And now you notice simultaneously when you breathe in,

You're breathing from your base,

You're drawing that moisture from below but also at the same time drawing in this warmth and heat and light from above.

So simultaneously drawing from below and above and as you exhale,

You notice that exhaling through your entire being as well,

Pushing out.

And now you're starting to notice that you're in this constant state of expansion and this respiration is happening through all parts of your body.

You're actually breathing through your root,

You're breathing through your midsection and this part of you that's taking form above you.

You start feeling a kind of lengthening.

And now you start to open up and become wider and you're noticing the development of two young little leaves.

These leaves start to open up and the wrinkles are kind of evening out.

You have these two broad heart-shaped leaves that are now pointed firmly upward and they're starting to open up and instead of being oriented vertically,

They're starting to be oriented horizontally so you're not just lengthening but you're also expanding.

You also notice that at the same time your roots,

Your roots seem to be becoming more complex.

It's not just one tap root that goes down but they're starting to branch off and you can sense these little tiny little root hairs expanding in an infinite number of directions.

Still lengthening but also expanding.

And between those two leaves that are now fully formed,

You're following the stems all the way back down into the center.

You notice there's this new leaf that's forming.

You continue to breathe in and draw that moisture from the soil beneath you,

Drawing that energy of the light,

Feeling that heat throughout the whole plant.

And then you feel right at your center the development of this new leaf and it's something totally new.

It's something that's being formed with that light and that heat and the respiration.

You're creating this and you feel it right at your center and there's some warmth and life and then you push that up and you start to push,

Push that new set of leaves and they're shaped differently than the first two leaves and you're pushing those up and you're elongating,

You're expanding and you're also deepening at your root deeper,

Deeper and then it starts to open up that first set of true leaves.

So now you have four leaves,

The first two leaves and then the next set of true leaves at the center and you're expanding and elongating and you start to notice a strength throughout the stem.

The stem seems still flexible but more resilient.

You've expanded and you're feeling more vital,

A sense of having made it,

A sense of rootedness.

And just stay here.

There's a stillness,

There's a sureness to it and notice those true leaves getting bigger and another set of leaves developing from that center on top of a strong stem and you notice the next set of leaves coming out and more elongating and widening,

Strengthening,

More presence.

Continue to breathe with an awareness at the level of the roots through the stems into the leaves both horizontally and vertically.

Remember to feel the light,

The sensation of heat,

Strength of the stem,

The roots,

The feeling of moisture along the newly formed roots,

The respiration at all levels of the plant.

And now just allow yourself to be this seedling.

Breathe.
