Sometimes it's helpful to know the reason behind our spiritual practice.
So in the case of meditation,
The whole purpose of the practice is to learn how to have a quiet mind.
So first of all,
What a new seeker will find,
They take time to meditate,
Is how noisy their mind is,
But just seeing how noisy their mind is and how uncontrollable it is,
Is part of what's necessary in order to finally get a quiet mind.
And the whole purpose of having a quiet mind is so that you can hear your soul,
You can hear God.
You're not being blown away just by chatter and by trivial information.
You start hearing your soul and then you can bring it in.
You can follow your soul and begin to embody it.
And that's the part,
That's the whole point of meditation,
To help you do that.
And also if you're going through a period of depression,
Then chanting is a good alternative because sometimes meditation can make depression worse.
So chanting might be something useful or a walking meditation where you just keep focused on what you're observing.
But you know,
Anything you do with the intention of developing a quiet mind,
Having a strong yearning to be able to live in that state will really accelerate you finding it.
And it just takes practice and you have to be patient with yourself.
