Take a second to relax,
Unclench your jaw,
Let your shoulders drop a little,
Let your body settle where it is,
Chair,
Bed,
Floor,
Whatever is holding you up right now,
Let it hold you,
Take one slow breath in,
Easy breath out,
Again,
Nothing fancy,
Just enough to arrive,
If closing your eyes doesn't feel right,
Keep them open,
If anything feels too intense,
Come back to your feet,
And one sound in the room,
Let's talk,
Today is foundation 4,
Every moment has a map,
And when you can read the map,
You stop feeding the same old suffering,
Foundation 1 was the body,
The body is the bell,
You drift,
It rings,
You come back,
Foundation 2 was feelings,
The first wave,
Pleasant,
Unpleasant,
Neutral,
Catch it early,
Before it becomes the whole story,
Foundation 3 was mind states,
The state you're speaking from,
If you don't know what mind you're in,
That mind starts talking for you,
And foundation 4 brings it together,
Now you start seeing what keeps repeating,
Now you stop walking blind into the same fire,
A lot of the time,
It's not the moment that runs you,
It's the pattern already waiting inside the moment,
One more scroll,
That's a pattern,
Snapping at somebody you love,
Then wondering what took over,
That's a pattern,
Drifting through the day half alive,
Checked out,
Calling it rest,
That's a pattern,
Spinning in anxiety,
Checking,
Planning,
Pacing inside,
That's a pattern,
Hearing that voice say,
This doesn't work,
Why bother,
Don't start,
That's a pattern too,
And the good news is this,
Once you can name it,
You don't have to keep obeying it,
This isn't who you are,
It's what's happening,
So today the practice is simple,
Pattern check,
Three steps,
Name the lens,
Name the pattern,
Apply one counter move,
First name the lens,
What kind of moment is this,
Keep it simple,
Hindrance moment,
Factor moment,
Foretasks moment,
Most days,
The hindrances are the clearest map,
Desire,
Aversion,
Sloth,
And torpor,
Restlessness,
Second,
Name the exact pattern,
Is this desire,
One more,
The reach,
That pull for one more hit,
Is this aversion,
Heat,
Irritation,
Control mode,
Is this fog,
Checked out,
Going dim,
Have gone,
Is this restlessness,
Spinning,
Can't sit still inside,
Compulsive checking,
Is this doubt,
Second guessing everything,
Nothing works mind,
Then third,
Apply one counter move,
If it's desire,
Feet,
One sound,
Not now,
If it's aversion,
Jaw soft,
Longer,
Exhale,
Widen out,
If it's fog,
Eyes open,
Posture up,
Feel hands and face,
If it's restlessness,
Longer,
Exhale,
Slow it down,
Simpler,
Anchor,
If it's doubt,
One small rep,
Just this breath,
Just these feet,
Just this moment,
And this is why the four foundations matter,
The body brings you back,
Feelings help you catch it early,
Mind states show you what kind of mind is moving,
Patterns show you what keeps repeating,
That's the gift,
You start seeing earlier,
Choosing earlier,
Suffering less,
That's how the buddha's path gets real in a human life,
Not just by knowing things,
By seeing clearly enough to stop feeding what hurts you,
Now take a moment,
Name the lens,
Name the pattern,
Choose the counter move,
Come back,
The wind is not perfection,
The wind is seen,
Body,
Feelings,
Mind,
States,
Patterns,
That's the full foundation set,
Use it anywhere,
At the sink,
In traffic,
Mid-argument,
At work,
In the scroll,
And if you want to go deeper,
The hindrances are there,
The seven factors are there,
The rest of the path is in the catalog waiting for you,
So carry this with you,
Not like information,
Like a way of seeing,
Because every moment has a map,
And little by little,
You are learning how to read your life before suffering reads it for you,
Stillness is rebellion,
Compassion is a weapon,
Peace is within,
