Exercise 4.
Asking the monkey for help.
And today we are going to test the idea that your monkey will help you,
If they understand what we are really doing.
We're going to ask them for specific help and see how they respond.
And whilst you continue to breathe and continue to feel great.
We'll see if the nature of the interruptions and disruptions can be tailored to help us.
Take a deep gentle breath and find a comfortable place where you will not be disturbed for the next half hour or so.
Hello,
This is Tim Powell welcoming you to the Misaligned Monkey Recordings and to this session in particular where I will help you.
To relax.
To contemplate.
And perhaps even to meditate.
On the ideas and thoughts which come up.
All designed to help you consider and implement a different way of working with your monkey.
And today your intention is simply to listen to my voice.
To contemplate the ideas and suggestions.
As you know,
Contemplation is a chance for you to consider,
Consider some ideas or even some beliefs that might be useful to you,
If you were to choose them in some way.
Change can sometimes seem tricky.
But it's not really.
And it's important that we see change for what it really is.
Change stimulates growing and evolving,
And an ongoing contemplation of what we believe to be true.
Change encourages a gentle exploration of other options.
And gives us the better chance of stacking the odds in our favour.
Stacking the odds of getting more of what we want.
Or stacking the odds in favour of getting less of what we don't want.
This is all about thriving.
Thriving in the world you find yourself in.
And thriving asks us to accept the idea of us changing.
When it suits our purpose to do so.
Because of this,
It's worth having a pen and paper to hand.
And perhaps even a notebook.
That you can use regularly to record anything you feel is important for you.
And you may wish to do this at any point in time.
But always return to listen and focus once more on my voice.
And you are free to do this,
Because this is your session.
And my voice is just a guide to help you.
Even if you choose to stop and make some notes,
It's always worth continuing to listen to the recordings all the way to the end.
And it helps to have arranged things to allow you to concentrate on this experience.
And so do not plan to listen to this recording whilst driving or operating machinery.
It also works well to listen to this recording with headphones.
While you can sit.
Or even lay somewhere you find comfortable and somewhere you will not be disturbed.
If you've had a particularly traumatic past and would rather avoid the possibility of stirring up any deep feelings or memories.
Then don't listen to this recording until you feel completely ready to do so.
And when you are ready.
.
.
Just settle now into your place.
As they talk away in the background.
And maybe you feel it's time now for you to shut your eyes.
Relax in that way you know is best for you.
The way that will help you give your full undivided attention to this experience.
I'm speaking of relaxing.
Perhaps as you listen to my voice,
You might begin to pay a gentle attention to your breathing.
As it travels gently in.
And then gently out again.
And as we continue to breathe,
We sense the breath moving through our bodies.
And the rise of our belly as the air enters and leaves.
And perhaps like the sea running up against the land as the tide flows in and out.
Perhaps remaining still between breaths.
Still for what seems like just a momentary pause or even a rest.
Before flowing purposefully back out again.
As we feel our body continue to relax.
Deeper and deeper.
And each time you breathe like this,
You can feel this happening as you continue to listen to my voice.
And gently breathe in.
And then out again.
And it's all in your own time.
In your own way.
And deep down you know what makes best for you.
You feel good as you continue to breathe like this.
And you now begin to wonder about the nature of making the most of the opportunity you have here with me today.
And as you continue to breathe.
It's time to focus your attention on your feet.
And you notice your heels and the skin that stretches from your heels all the way to each individual toe.
And as you take your next inhale.
You can sense the movement.
A movement in towards your feet.
And I want you to imagine a movement of what we might think of.
As clean and helpful energy.
Bringing you whatever it is you need today.
Designed to help you with whatever you desire.
And as it enters through the bottom of your feet.
Rising up through your body.
Filling your lower leg.
Rising upwards as you breathe in.
And then,
Perhaps,
You noticed it pausing.
Like the tide.
As your inhale completes.
And then unlike the tide,
The energy remains solidly where it is.
As you exhale.
You notice that it feels good.
Comforting and nurturing.
Continuing to relax your lower legs.
And as you breathe in again,
The feeling flows further.
Up your legs to your knees and maybe even beyond.
And it holds again as you breathe out and where it remains you feel very,
Very comfortable.
And you can take a moment to savour or relish the feeling.
If you like.
The feeling it gives you before your next inhale.
And as you continue to relax.
And as you continue to breathe in and out.
You can sense the movement of the healing,
Helpful energy continuing to rise.
Rise up through your thighs.
And then upwards onto your hips.
And your ways.
Filling your body with comfort.
And nurturing energy.
And as you relax and continue to breathe in and then out again.
You can feel the energy as it continues on upwards towards your head.
Through your internal organs to your chest and then on up to your shoulders,
Always moving up towards your head.
And you sense a deep relaxation and peacefulness.
That accompanies the energy as it continues to rise within your body.
As you breathe gently in and then out.
And the energy moves right up to your shoulders now.
And as you breathe in this time,
It fills your shoulders with warm,
Comforting energy.
And then,
Unlike before.
This time the release of your breath as you breathe out.
Signals a release of more energy that flows down your arms.
Filling them with comfort,
Health and strength.
All the way down to your fingers.
And as you exhale in a slightly longer out-breath.
You notice as your fingers begin to tingle gently.
Signalling the arrival of the energy.
And you know this to be the case.
You breathe in again.
Noticing the sensations,
Savoring the movement of energy from your feet all the way up through your body to your shoulders.
And as you continue to breathe.
The energy continues to flow.
Filling your arms and once again,
You can feel your fingers begin to gently tingle.
And you know your arms and hands are full of health-giving energy.
And when you're ready.
On your next inhale,
You hold your breath for just a moment.
And then looking upwards as you breathe out.
It's as if you release the energy to flow on further up.
From your shoulders,
Upwards.
Into your neck and then into your head space.
And it feels natural and comforting to breathe like this.
And as the energy fills your head,
You feel calm,
Confident and strong.
And you continue to breathe enjoying the moment And it feels natural for your inhale to allow your body to fill with energy.
To fill with energy all the way up to your shoulders.
And to feel your arms right down to your fingers.
And you notice now that it feels equally natural as on each exhale you notice the movement continue up into your headspace.
And you can feel the cleansing and empowering that this energy brings you.
You feel the value.
Of your breathing.
Filling your body and your headspace with clarity and focus.
And perhaps.
.
.
You're reminded of one of those rare moments in your life.
When you have felt total clarity.
A power to totally focus.
To focus all your many resources on whatever you choose to do.
And you enjoy this feeling again now.
You continue to breathe.
And you notice your whole body relaxed and yet ready,
Calm,
Confident,
Strong and determined,
Capable and ready for whatever you will ask of it.
And you feel good as you continue to breathe like this.
Listening to a recording like this usually means that you might already be considering the possibility of changing some things.
Or that you have decided some things must change.
And we already understand that changing some things is so much easier if you change rather than expecting the outside world to change for you.
And you can simply change what you do.
Or change what you think.
Or change what you think about.
And all of these present options for something to stop doing now.
Something you could stop doing that would make the change that you want.
And in the past,
Most of us have been busy.
Perhaps too busy?
To find time to change.
And sometimes it can just seem easier to keep on doing the same old things in the same old way.
But today you are doing something different.
And today you are directly asking your monkey for some help.
And the question to hold in your mind today.
Is what could I stop doing now?
That would give me back some time.
And still allow me to be all that I can be.
It would not really surprise you to know that one of the simple secrets of effective change is to stop doing something first.
To stop doing something before you add in any new activity.
Or just stop doing something that doesn't really help you at all.
Stopping some of what you do now is the best first step in effective change.
And I wonder what it is you will consider stopping at the end of today's session.
Deciding what to change can appear to be tricky.
And we can be guilty of dismissing new ideas as impossible.
And as a result,
Many of us might have struggled to stop doing things in the past.
Even when we know these things don't help us at all.
And so it's worth considering the idea of any stops that arise with an open mind.
However strange or unreasonable it may initially sound.
And you could use the idea of stopping.
To make a change.
A change in your habits.
A change in your activity.
Or even a change in your thinking.
All things that are worth exploring for something to stop doing.
And to simply stop doing something is a very,
Very good place to start if you want to make a real change.
Perhaps it will be something you don't need to do anymore,
Or something that just doesn't contribute to the life you really want.
Something that leads you astray.
And as you look to your monkey now.
You can ask for help.
And you could ask,
What could I stop doing now?
What could I stop doing that would give me back some time?
And still allow me to be all that I can be.
And while I give you some time alone,
Hold the question in your mind.
As though you're actually asking the question of your monkey.
And let's see what comes up.
And as you consider the ideas that may have so far come up.
You may remember your question.
What could I stop doing now?
That would give me back some time.
And still allow me to be all I can be.
Are there some obvious immediate answers?
Or some may be still hidden in your understanding of the nature of the interruption and distractions you have seen.
If you have some things that don't make sense yet.
It's likely that these are really interesting.
And they will reveal an area of disconnect where you and your monkey are still misaligned.
And these usually highlight the need to share a clearer destination.
Which we will come to presently in these exercises.
But for now,
Let's take a breath and at the same moment,
A leap of faith and work on the possibility.
That our monkeys really want to help.
And as we begin to come towards the end of our time together today.
We can start to help them by expecting their help to lie somewhere inside the nature of the interruptions and disruptions that they present.
And we can look behind the immediate nature of the interruption.
To see the hell that is intended hiding there.
Stop now if you need to and make any notes while you listen to the end of this recording.
And today,
As we begin to come to the end of our session together,
You may already have some good ideas on what you can stop doing now.
And it may be your monkey needs to know you are serious,
And so sometimes it may take a couple of sessions before they really start to join in,
And you see this working well.
In our next exercise,
We're going to consider how we can help target your monkey's efforts much more effectively by getting so much clearer on what it is you really want.
And as our time for today's contemplation comes to an end now.
You've had the time to consider what it is you need to take forward.
And you will remember this as and when it helps you to do so.
And you may begin now to consider any changes you wish to make.
Changes in activity or even thinking.
And in your model of how you understand that things work.
Maybe there are some old truths or values.
Or even some old beliefs that no longer serve you well.
And maybe it's time,
Time for you to consider moving on.
Adopting new ways that suit you and your purpose far more effectively.
And in a minute or two,
I'm going to count you up from 10 to 1.
And when I reach a count of one,
You'll find yourself completely awake.
I'm ready to make some notes and then continue with the rest of your day.
And as your body begins to wake up now,
Perhaps you stretch gently.
Moving one way and then the other.
And as you prepare to come fully awake.
I'll count you.
And when I reach a count of ten.
.
.
You'll find yourself fully awake and ready to continue with the rest of your day.
Pleased with the investment you've made so far in understanding your monkey and the relationship that you can now have with them.
And keen to spend time in your next recording session.
Here with me.
And let me begin to count for you now as your body already starts to stretch and maybe your eyes begin to open and begin to wake up to come into the room.
One.
Take a deep,
Deep breath.
Two,
Sense the movement in your body and perhaps your head moves gently from one side to the other.
3.
Stretch out your arms and feel your hands and your fingers moving and signaling that you are ready to get going again.
Four.
Coming awake now.
Your eyes open.
Five,
Your eyes are open and you look around noticing what's surrounding you.
Six,
Take another deep breath.
And start to prepare for the rest of your day.
For the rest of your week.
7.
Decide when you will be ready to repeat this session or move on to the next one in the series.
Eight.
You're ready to return to the rest of your day now.
Fully awake,
You sit up straighter as you consider any notes you wish to make.
Nine,
Take a moment or two to pull any thoughts or conclusions together now.
As you look round the room,
Ready.
To get on with the rest of your day.
