Here's the very first chapter of L Frank Baum's masterpiece, The Wizard of Oz. It's quite a short chapter, but don't worry, most of the other chapters are quite a bit longer! You probably know the story of Dorothy and her journey to the magical land of Oz, but perhaps you've only seen the film and not read the book?

Here's your chance to enjoy Baum's wonderful, witty writing, telling the classic tale that has delighted children and adults since the year 1900. In the first chapter, a cyclone hits the house Dorothy shares with Uncle Henry and Aunt Em.
