This one goes to those who wait for the second half to come.
To all who walk the thinnest ice,
Absolutely numb.
To those who must be terrified of what will come their way.
To those who spend all their hours waiting for that day.
This one's for all who feel their life has reached the end.
That this time there's no turning back and nothing left to mend.
To those who feel they have no chance to survive how they're attacked.
To those who have a starving vulture perched upon their back.
I've been this person in my own way,
Waiting for the worst.
Shaking knowing someday that the dam will surely burst.
I will not tell you to forget what happened to you then.
I will not tell you to believe deep breaths your weight will end.
I will not say just concentrate on your chakras a little more.
I will not say that karma will just even up the score.
But I will say things happen,
Never as we planned.
Whether we deserve or don't deserve what's landed in our hands,
There are some obvious choices for how to make it through.
Live in fear.
Deny it all.
Just to name two.
Then there is the other one that rarely people see.
It's hard to do,
But also easy.
Live unexpectedly.
Take your vulture to a pottery class.
Sew it a funny hat.
Ignore it into oblivion.
They never anticipate that.
Remember that each sunrise there are all new songs to sing.
New books have been published.
But here's the tricky thing.
It's never about forgetting.
Never about letting go.
Never about blind optimism.
But that you already know.
If Pandora has smashed your box and chaos runs amok,
Nothing says you have to stay.
To ever,
Always be stuck.
Here's to those who don't move forward.
To those who don't go back.
Here's to those who take an angle.
An unexpected attack.
To those who slowly stand up taller when utter terror descends.
To those who do not crack.
But try,
Instead,
To bend.
To everyone who plays a game or tries a new type of cheese.
All of this may sound absurd,
But the small things such as these,
A life lived unexpectedly,
Can never be controlled.
No vulture can know ahead of time.
If you'll salsa or rock and roll.
You don't have to ignore,
You don't have to forget what has made your life this way.
But I guarantee if you're unexpected enough,
They'll never know what to say.
