We do not admit that lost causes exist.
We believe they are just for the weak.
If we push faith and throw enough love,
The lost causes will sing,
Dance,
And speak.
But we've never been able to truly succeed in making some live as we would.
For then they aren't living,
We're doing it for them.
All becomes you must and you should.
I've always believed you fight to the end,
Then get up and never say quit.
I try to see when I make a mistake,
And this one I own and admit.
To see someone fail or not even try,
I've never been one to let go.
This year has taught me innumerable things,
Mostly how much I don't know.
I can say that I've learned it's never your fault when you've truly done all you are able.
Let me repeat,
It's never your fault when there's now one less guest at the table.
I do,
I do think lost causes are real.
There are times we can't turn it around.
One takes on water,
Refuses to bail,
Then sinking,
They just run aground.
In crisis somehow I've turned to our language,
Our breath and words are divine.
But only if we understand what is said with both our hearts and our minds.
Maybe the word fight in fight to the end is just to stop and stand still.
Be a lighthouse,
A ray in the dark.
Fight without charging the hill.
We can stay and remain and just be who we are,
The hardest way to fight.
But my biggest mistake was in the word lost.
I never got it quite right.
Those who are lost,
That's the word lost.
It just means what can't be found.
It doesn't mean over,
It doesn't mean gone,
It's deceptively short and profound.
I do believe lost causes are real,
That there are times we can't save the day.
But I do,
I do believe that the lost can sometimes discover the way.
