Welcome to In the Flow,
A positivity-provoking podcast designed to lift us up to that higher place to live our best lives.
We will laugh,
Cry,
Meditate,
And discuss any and all things spiritual to learn and remove any stigma surrounding spiritual gifts,
Meditation,
Prayer,
And the afterlife.
So today I want to talk about the concept of Ahimsa.
And interestingly,
I am just a student of all of this,
Right?
But what's interesting,
You guys are going to laugh when you hear me say this,
But I didn't understand what Ahimsa was until I was watching the movie Seven Years in Tibet,
Right?
And they were,
At one point in the movie,
They were trying to build something or something and they were taking,
They realized that the worms,
They couldn't hurt the worms,
Right?
So they took the worms and they were moving the worms because they were building something and they came across the worms,
Right?
And I was like,
Wow,
What is that?
What concept is that?
Like what does that mean?
Like why are they doing that?
You know,
Cause of course,
You know,
I'm a perpetual student of this kind of stuff,
Right?
So I was like,
Ooh,
That's really cool.
So then I started learning about the concept of Ahimsa and it is basically nonviolence,
But it's not just like,
You know,
Don't kill somebody,
Don't hurt,
You know,
Don't hit somebody.
It's not just about that.
It's about all of it,
You know,
And that really,
Like that concept,
Because it's a virtue,
Right?
They consider it a virtue and you know,
It's a virtue in Hinduism and Buddhism and like all these different religions.
And I'm like,
This is so fascinating.
So then I started looking back because,
You know,
God forbid I should just assume anything,
Right?
Like find out why and where and how things came to be,
Of course,
You know.
So I learned that the concept of Ahimsa and goes all the way back to the Vedas,
Which the Vedas go back to like 6,
000 BC,
You know,
Like an insane long time ago.
So I think to myself,
Wow,
We had virtues all the way back then,
You know,
Like there was right and wrong,
But all the way back then.
And I don't know that just,
That whole concept is just so fascinating,
Right?
So anyway,
Getting back to Ahimsa,
It's not just about not hurting somebody like physically,
It's about not hurting them emotionally.
It's about not hurting them even with your thoughts,
Right?
So even like not thinking negative or mean thoughts about somebody else.
I mean,
I'm sorry,
We're all in a sort of sense guilty of that to some degree.
Do you know what I mean?
Like we've all thought like we're not so nice thoughts,
Right?
That's part of Ahimsa.
And to live a life of Ahimsa is just,
Can you even imagine living your life like that?
I would so love that.
I mean,
I'm striving for that,
But it's amazing to kind of think of the concept of that,
Right?
So just being a nice person,
Like,
I mean,
I'm sorry,
I know I'm oversimplifying.
I get that,
Right?
I am not a,
I am not a,
An expert on it by any stretch of the means.
But I know for me,
The idea of living that way,
Living in a non-violent way with my deeds and my thoughts and my actions and all of that is what,
I mean,
What else could you strive for?
Okay,
Yeah,
Of course you can strive for other things,
But what else could you really strive for?
So today that's what we are going to meditate on.
Yay.
Aren't you so excited?
Because boy,
Can you imagine,
And I know I say this all the time,
But can you imagine a world where all of us,
Just one minute at a time,
Would strive for the concept of ahimsa?
Like,
Seriously,
It just,
You know,
And I feel like sometimes,
You know,
I channel like John Lennon or something,
You know,
Like imagine,
You know,
Because that song obviously is just,
You know,
Just does it for me.
I mean,
Instant tears.
The second I hear the piano come in,
It's like,
Ooh,
You know,
But yeah.
So can you imagine a world where we would all strive for non-violent deeds,
Actions,
Words,
Thoughts,
All of that.
So that's what we're going to meditate on today.
So let's get ourselves comfortable.
And what we're going to do is,
What I'm going to do is I'm going to play the Shruti box and we're going to sort of chant it again.
You know,
I always say this,
You can chant along with,
If you feel like it,
You can just listen.
It's really about,
And I've really come to learn this in a real powerful way lately.
It's about the vibration of the chant,
Right?
So you don't ever really have to worry about chanting with,
Okay?
It's about the vibration of the words.
Okay?
So let's close our eyes,
Get ourselves comfortable.
Like I say,
Close your eyes whenever you feel like it's right for you.
And let's take a nice,
Really long,
Slow,
Deep breath in through our nose and release.
Perfect.
Wow.
Feeling so much gratitude today.
I want to pass that along to you guys.
What are you grateful for today?
What's going on in your life?
Or what has anything happened to you where you feel that sense of gratitude?
It could be anything from no traffic today when you were driving,
To that hand holding with your grandmother,
Or it could just be the fact that you woke up happy today.
Gratitude knows no bounds,
Boundaries,
I guess I should say it that way.
Love that.
So again,
You can chant along with or just listen.
Just sit in the stillness.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Ahimsa.
Let's start bringing the awareness back to our bodies and the chair.
We're sitting in.
Let's take a nice deep breath in and release it.
Beautiful.
Whenever you feel comfortable,
You can open your eyes.
Thank you so much for joining me today with this regarding ahimsa.
It's such an amazingly powerful concept and idea and virtue.
So I invite you to pass that on to the world today.
Thank you so much for joining as always from my heart to yours.
