Namaste and welcome to the Spirit Room's daily podcast,
In the Flow with Laurie Albert,
Where we discuss spirituality,
Meditate,
And allow positivity to envelop every aspect of our souls.
Welcome.
Here are my questions for today,
For all of us.
What is your routine in the morning for your mental health?
What is that?
You wake up,
You go into the bathroom,
You brush your teeth maybe,
But what do you do for your mental health?
To wake up and know and help you create a happy day.
A happy day.
What is it that you do?
I was thinking about this yesterday because I think it's important to have an ongoing routine.
Just like we get up,
We go to the bathroom,
We brush our teeth,
We take a shower,
All that stuff.
We do that for our physical body,
But what about our mental body?
This is,
I think,
So important because I realize that some mornings,
I sort of fall off that wagon of jumping in,
You know what I mean?
Honestly,
When I wake up for the first,
And you guys know,
I'm usually a really pretty happy person,
Right?
But for that first,
I'm not exaggerating when I say maybe 30 seconds to a minute,
I'm pretty darn grumpy,
But I think this is why having sort of an emotional routine in the morning is so important.
When you start your day out in a good headspace,
It sets you up for having a great day filled with happiness and patience,
And downright,
Yes,
I'm going to say it,
Joy,
You know?
All that good stuff that we want in our lives.
Today,
I wanted to give you some of the ideas for things that I've tried over the years.
Some of the stuff you've probably heard me talk about before,
And maybe you haven't.
All of this stuff is stuff that I've tried.
Some of it I vibe with,
And I'll just keep going,
And then other things I don't quite you know,
Feel like,
Eh,
I don't like doing that,
You know?
So okay,
So here's my list.
Number one,
This is to me one of the most important things you can do,
Right?
Mirror work,
Right?
Louise Hay talked so much about this.
Waking up in the morning,
First thing,
And looking in the mirror and saying,
I love you.
Like,
I know,
It's,
I wouldn't say it's difficult,
But for some people,
It is.
It can be a hard thing,
And it can feel fake when you look at yourself in the eye and say,
I love you.
Oh my God.
It can be jarring,
Because we don't normally do that,
Right?
I know.
And that's what I love about doing that,
Because so important,
It is jarring.
We want that.
You want to be jarred a little bit,
Jarred into,
I know I keep saying that word,
But into recognizing that we love ourselves,
Right?
So here's the thing.
If there's one thing that you do every day,
That would be the one thing.
The most important thing,
Bar none,
Right?
If you do that every day for a week,
Even,
Like,
Don't make it be so dramatic and be,
You know,
Doesn't have to be so dramatic and,
Oh my God,
You know,
Whatever,
I'm going to do this the rest of my life.
Try it for a week and see what happens,
Right?
And then the next thing would be my beloved sticky notes.
I just love sticky notes,
Right?
I know.
I think I've mentioned this before,
But writing the word that just tweaks you,
You know,
On a sticky note and putting it somewhere where you're going to find it,
The refrigerator,
The bathroom mirror,
The whatever,
Right?
I think I've mentioned this before,
Too,
But the word that makes me feel like a freaking superhero is courageous.
I love that word.
And it's different for everybody.
If you don't vibe with that word,
That's fine,
You know,
But there's something about that word that just totally motivates me,
You know,
Yeah,
And it's different for everybody.
What is your word?
You know,
It might be peace.
It might be love.
I mean,
It could be whatever it is,
Right?
So you put it on a sticky note,
You put it on your bathroom mirror,
On the kitchen counter,
On your coffee maker,
Change it out every few days just to make it fun.
That's another thing.
I mean,
This stuff is supposed to be,
You know,
It doesn't have to be so dramatic.
It should be fun,
You know?
But okay,
So if you don't like the sticky note idea because there's too many people in your house and everybody will think you're weird,
Just put a reminder on your phone or on your calendar.
Like if you use like Outlook or something,
Put it on your calendar.
Oh,
It's so great.
It's just awesome,
You know?
I love doing that.
It will jolt you whenever it pops up.
It'll kind of jolt you into reality,
Right?
So okay,
So then,
Of course,
I'm going to say this meditation,
Of course,
Of course,
Of course.
So I love the way that davidji talks about this,
Right?
When I first heard him say this,
I was like,
You are a nut job,
But it's so cool and it's so right.
He does this thing,
RPM.
Now,
Do you guys know what those mean?
Does anybody follow him and know what that means?
Rise,
Pee,
Meditate.
I mean,
Seriously,
It's like so perfect.
You get up,
You go to the bathroom because you're not going to be able to meditate without doing that.
You don't brush your teeth.
You don't look in the mirror.
You don't do anything.
You just come back to bed or to your chair or whatever,
And you just meditate.
I love that,
You know,
Because then you start out and you're in this awesome meditation space,
You know?
So I love that.
So anyway,
So that's like my,
That's like another thing that I love.
Okay,
So the next thing,
And this,
This can be difficult because I know a lot of people that do this,
Right?
Don't turn the news on or look at your phone,
Even for emails,
Until you do something positive for yourself.
Like one of the things we just said,
Right?
Don't do anything else.
You know,
I mean like don't do anything else.
I mean,
You know,
Like don't turn the news on.
Don't look at your emails.
Don't look at Instagram,
Whatever,
Right?
Turn on some music instead.
Something that makes you smile.
That's so amazing to do.
It,
I swear,
Not looking at your phone or even if you don't have,
I'm not saying to get off social media altogether.
Some people need to,
Some people don't,
Whatever,
Whatever it is for you,
It's fine.
You know,
But I'm saying don't,
You know,
Give it 10 minutes.
Do something good for yourself mentally before you have all of that stuff coming at you,
Right?
The minute you look at your phone,
It's like all this stuff and you're instantly in either work mode or friend mode or,
Or whatever mode,
You know,
When you look at your emails,
Right?
So then another little thing real quick before we meditate on this,
Um,
Is just to simply be present.
Okay.
So what I mean by this is get up,
Get your coffee and just either sit in the house if it's too cold or go outside and just stand there or sit there and be in the present moment.
Just stand there and just look around you.
And another thing you can do when you're doing that is do a,
Put your coffee mug down and then you just stretch.
There is nothing better than putting your,
Oh gosh,
I just did it now.
There is nothing better than putting your arms up and just feeling that stretch and it doesn't have to be a big yoga move or anything like that.
Just,
Just stretch.
I don't know.
In my head,
It opens up my heart and that's the way it is for me.
Whenever I stretch like that,
Right?
It wakes up your body a little bit,
Which I just love.
So let's meditate on this a little bit.
Okay.
Just for a couple minutes because I think it's really important even if you just sit for three minutes sitting in the stillness.
So important.
Okay.
All right.
So close your eyes.
Let's take a nice deep breath in.
Taking on in all of this positivity that we've talked about this morning and breathe out.
Perfect.
Sometimes that's all it takes to shift your mood.
So the affirmation that I want us to repeat over and over today is this.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
That almost brings tears to my eyes.
I don't know about you guys.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
The best thing is,
Even if there's a little twitch in your brain that's like,
No,
I'm not.
Say it anyway.
The great thing about affirmations,
If you continue to say it,
If it permeates your brain and your mind,
If you say it throughout the day,
You will become it.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
So let's sit for just a few minutes in the stillness,
Repeating this mantra to ourselves.
I will keep the time.
Let's begin.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
I am grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
And start bringing our awareness back to our bodies and share where we are.
And I invite you to take this affirmation with you the rest of the day.
Put it as a reminder on your phone and know that you are grateful,
Confident,
And strong.
Let's take a deep breath in and release it.
Namaste.
