Welcome to your morning meditation.
Sometimes in the mornings,
We can feel an overwhelm of emotions and thoughts rushing at us.
Our cortisol levels are higher in the morning,
So things can feel a bit tense.
So in this practice I'm going to invite you to create some space and to connect with your breath as a way of coming back to your center.
And the inner stillness that always lies within you.
So wherever you are,
I invite you to get comfortable.
Starting to tune into your surroundings.
Starting to notice what you can hear.
Notice what you can feel where your body makes contact with the surface beneath you.
And inviting you to close your eyes or lower your gaze to the floor if that feels better.
Now,
Inviting you to observe your breath.
Observing the natural flow of the inhale,
The exhale.
Observing the breathing,
No need to change it.
And your mind might get carried away with thoughts,
Distractions,
And that's okay.
That's part of the mindfulness practice.
Each time you've noticed the mind wandering off,
Gently guide it back towards your breath.
Observing the breathing.
Now inviting you to notice any thoughts that might be arising.
Let's see if you can observe them without getting carried away into their stories.
Sometimes thoughts can make us feel things in our bodies as well,
So each time you've noticed a thought pop up,
I invite you to feel where it lands in your body,
Or around your body.
And see if you can notice this feeling without any judgment.
Without going into a story about what it means about you or your life.
Just seeing if you can feel this feeling just as it is.
Making room for it to be there.
And allowing the thoughts to be there too.
Sometimes if we try to push away feelings or thoughts,
We can actually put more energy into it and it gets stronger.
So in mindfulness,
We aim to practice allowing thoughts to be there.
Allowing emotions and feelings to be there.
We don't have to like it,
We don't have to want it,
But just see if you can breathe into it.
Make room for it to be there.
When the mind wanders off into thought,
That's okay,
That's a mindful moment when you've noticed.
So just gently bring your awareness back to your breath.
Breathing into any feelings in the body.
And as we start to bring this practice to a close,
Taking a grounding breath in.
And letting go.
And you might like to offer yourself some kindness or gratitude for taking this time for yourself this morning.
