I invite you into this meditation designed to help you sleep easily and peacefully.
So when listening,
Please ensure that you are in a place that is safe for that to occur should you wish,
And in a place that is as calm and relaxed and free from disturbances as possible.
Also not driving or operating any heavy machinery.
Just take some time now for yourself to let go,
Perhaps in a new way,
And to find your ability where it lies,
To sleep well through the night,
Falling asleep easily,
And if you should wake,
To gently send you back to sleep peacefully.
Sleep is one of those natural things that sometimes can get out of rhythm.
The life we lead can be busy and stressful.
Lots can come into our world that can create a fight or flight switch on,
That can at times be difficult to switch off.
Until now.
Because sleep is a completely natural thing,
You already know how to sleep well.
Think of it as a cup that needs emptying before you begin to fall asleep so much easier than perhaps you might have thought possible.
All the day emptying out for the hour or so before you go to bed.
Letting go,
Resting,
Relaxing in all the ways you already know how to do.
And now your mind has nothing it needs to hold onto in this moment.
Tomorrow is a new day.
So if you haven't already,
Slowly close your eyes,
Take a few breaths in and out,
Sinking your awareness down with each breath out,
And finding a place of stillness in your body that your mind can begin to recognise as relaxation,
Wherever that might be.
There's no right way.
Just allowing wherever you're resting to be the starting place for that growing sense of soothing relaxation.
This is because you.
.
.
.
And if you find any place in your body that feels like it would like to let go a little bit,
Relax deeper,
Without you really needing to pay attention to anything much now,
Except you're moving towards sleep.
And as you do,
Perhaps gently placing your awareness in remembering the softness that occurs in your body when you are really very sleepy,
And enjoying that remembering as you relax now.
And what is so wonderful when you discover it to be true,
Is that under the surface,
Relaxation is always there,
No matter what you're doing,
Always available to you,
Wherever you are,
The before place,
The place that knows how to do something so simply.
Like your heart beating,
And your breath rising and falling gently,
Deep in your belly,
How to do these natural things without effort.
So now that feeling moving through your body,
As your mind can let go of whatever it needs to in order to take you towards peaceful sleep.
And if now you were to begin to relax even more fully than before,
Just noticing where you would start to experience this feeling,
Sinking deeper throughout your body,
Without really needing to pay very much attention at all to your heart beating softly,
Your breath settling even more in each moment,
Feeling any feeling that takes you to a greater place of sleepy calmness inside,
Your infinite place for sleep.
And if in the future you were to find that something could come to mind when you lay down to sleep at night,
That could mean you were able to rest so much more easily,
You might be curious what that might be,
If it's a shape,
Or feeling,
Or sound,
Or perhaps a soothing memory,
Something that could feel really good to you.
I wonder what you could know of it in this moment,
Somewhere deep inside,
That could also help you to sleep more easily right now as you connect to it,
In your own way,
Finding what you need to relax,
Something that always belongs to you for you to connect to when you need it,
Or using relaxation before bed that means you can rest well,
Because sleeping well is just about being in this moment here.
You could perhaps begin to understand it almost as a quietening,
Healing place for you to look forward to,
A place you can return to each night so much easier than before,
A place of peace for you to enjoy.
And if you're wanting to sleep through the night now,
Then just know that you can stay here restfully until morning,
And if you wish to return to the space you're in refreshed and ready to get on with whatever you need to,
Know you can take a few breaths now to bring yourself back into a full state of awareness,
Feeling more of your physical body now,
Perhaps bringing in some movement,
A wiggle of your fingers and toes,
And opening your eyes when you're ready,
Whether that is now or in the morning after a full,
Peaceful,
Soothing night sleep,
Bringing you back fully into the space that you're in.
