This brief, simple practice blending meditation and visualization can help athletes and other high achievers get into an ideal performance mindset. Motivating yet soothing, it can be incorporated into a pre-performance routine as an effective "mental warmup."

This is a short exercise to help you get into the mindset to perform.

Just like you warm up your body,

It's important to warm up your mind.

And the more you practice an exercise like this,

The easier it will be to focus and get locked in,

Even when you're under pressure.

So begin by just getting in touch with your breath.

Finding the rhythm of the air going in and going out.

Maybe it's coming in through your nose,

Out through your nose,

Or out through your mouth.

However you're breathing right now is just fine.

And if you want to,

Maybe you can try to relax your abs and see if you can get a full deep breath in.

Using our diaphragm to fill up our lungs and fully circulate the oxygen throughout our body to get us ready for what we're about to do.

And now breathing in,

My mind is alert.

Breathing out,

My body is calm.

Breathing in,

My mind is focused.

Breathing out,

My muscles are charged and ready.

Breathing in,

I trust my training.

Breathing out,

I feel my preparation.

Breathing in,

I know what I have to do.

Breathing out,

I remember that I have done this many times before.

Breathing in,

I balance effort and ease.

Breathing out,

My heart is full.

There's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Breathing in,

I am grateful for my body and my mind.

Breathing out,

I will savor this experience.

I am ready.
