Existential Beachwalk: 15min Seated Relaxation
by Keane Harley
This is a simple and relaxing 15 minute guided visualisation invoking a sense of connection and belonging. Allow yourself to feel connected to the ground, as well as to the core of your powerful, and inner being.
Transcript
Good morning and thank you for joining me on this exercise.
Before we start,
I'd like you to make yourself as comfortable as you can,
Seated as you are.
Take off your shoes if possible,
Stretch your feet,
And then place them flat on the floor.
For a few moments at least.
Allow yourself to feel connected to the ground.
Feel free to move yourself if you need to.
And if you find your thoughts wandering,
That's okay.
Just let them go and allow my voice to bring you back.
And if you haven't done so already,
You might close your eyes and relax.
I want you to take a few deep,
Slow,
Gentle breaths and just allow yourself to come to stillness,
Quietness,
And calm.
And for a little while become a human being rather than a human doing.
And just breathe.
If you listen,
You can hear the sound of the sea behind me.
We're on a deserted,
Sun-drenched beach.
You and I are going to walk along it,
Barefoot of course,
So that we can feel the ground beneath our souls,
The sand,
Between our toes,
And if you like,
The flowing and dabbing water bathing our feet.
Can you feel a warm,
Gentle breeze caressing your clothes and skin,
Carrying the scent of a summer seaside?
Let it fill your nose,
Let it fill your senses.
And as we walk along on the warm sand under a blue sky,
I want you to take in all the sights and sounds and sensations and let them go.
Take in all the sights and sounds and sensations and just get in touch with how it feels.
Laserly observe your feelings and thoughts as they arise and let them fly like seabirds.
Just observe them gliding,
Wheeling,
Diving,
And surfing on the wind without following any individual thought or feeling for more than just a moment or two.
And notice how relaxed you can become as your mind and body harmonize.
So we stroll along the shoreline,
Watching the little waves tripping over themselves to break on the shallow sand.
The tide rising or receding.
Every few breakers it moves a little more in or out.
And you become aware that this huge body of water,
Like your body,
Is the only thing that can be seen.
And you become aware that this huge body of water,
Like your body,
Is breathing in and breathing out.
Rising and falling,
Enveloping the entire globe.
Look out across the sea to the horizon and just become aware of its expanse.
It's connected to all the seas and all of the oceans.
It's attracted by the moon and warmed by the sun.
And as we continue walking,
Softly supported by the sand beneath our feet,
See the grains of sand.
Too numerous to count,
But each unique.
Within the sand are thousands of minerals as ancient as the rocks themselves.
The rocks which make up this planet.
And like the sand,
We too are made of this planet.
At birth you were formed with the stem cells blended from your parents.
And since that time every cell in your body has been nourished and built from the produce of the earth.
Every seven or so years apart from your stem cells,
All the cells of your being are regenerated and replaced.
Some over years and some over hours.
So each day you become a new you.
Revitalized in some small way.
Notice how easy it is to move on the sand as your limbs rhythmically glide,
Caressed by the wind and warmed by the sun,
And how fluid it all feels.
Just allowing your body to do what it's designed to do.
Allowing it to flow.
Allowing it to feel its own rhythm.
And how your clothing feels comfortable and loose.
Like your limbs,
Like your joints comfortable and loose.
The clothing gently billowing and ruffling against your skin.
And how alive that sensation makes you feel.
How natural it feels to walk.
And to move and to flow.
That motion of a body in motion.
And while it moves it encourages everything in you to flow.
Your heart,
Your breath moves,
Your lymph moves,
Your digestion system moves.
Even your spirit moves.
And as you feel everything flowing and moving and loose and relaxed.
You might even find yourself smiling and rejoicing at how it feels.
And because everything around you is in flow and in motion.
It's nice to connect with the fact that we are connected to our environment,
Intrinsically and deeply.
I think that this beautiful and unique ball of blue and green,
Which we call our home,
This Earth,
Is made of particles of previous celestial bodies that swirled and spun through space and came together.
And at the heart of our Earth is a core of iron,
Which originated in outer space.
And in our hearts we too carry traces of that iron.
In our blood cells.
And you get a sense of how everything is connected.
And you can feel the expanse,
The enormity of this firmament from which somewhere in the far distant past those elements that form an integral part of you were created.
We are of the stars.
As is every living creature.
We share a common DNA,
Each species separated only by a few small percent of differing genes.
And these tiny differences are what sets our species apart,
What makes our people unique,
What makes our family identifiable,
And what makes each and every one of us individual,
Special and irreplaceable.
So apart from being part of the stars and part of this Earth,
We're part of our people.
And for a moment I'd like you to feel the sensation of what it's like to be embraced by your family.
Feel yourself being embraced by your family.
Feel yourself being embraced by your entire family.
And being supported by your people.
Being lifted by the whole human race.
Because we are so connected.
And that sense of community is what binds us together.
It's what gives us joy.
It's what feeds us as humans.
I want to bring you back to the beach,
And while we walk along,
Try and bring together all of those thoughts that have just been floating through your mind over the last few minutes.
Feel it in your body.
Feel it in your heart and in your veins.
And feel the way we are fluid,
We are dynamic,
We are energized.
Breathe into the sense that you can energize all of the cells of your body with a sense of goodwill and a sense of gratitude.
And simply say thank you.
To your body for the amazing work it does in carrying you around.
To your mind for all the extraordinary things it's capable of conjuring up and working with and rationalizing.
Say thank you to your gut which is the seat of all of our fears and worries and stresses.
The gut that feeds our immune system and that feeds our brain and that feeds all of the cells in our bodies with the nutrition they need.
And take a moment to also say thank you to your heart.
And as we move away from the beach I want you to gently begin to reorientate yourself into the space in which you find yourself right now.
Bring those gifts that we've touched on into your day.
And then when you're ready you can open your eyes.
