Welcome.
Before we begin,
Make sure your tea is resting somewhere you can reach comfortably.
You don't need to hold it quite yet.
Simply notice where it is.
A small cup of earth,
Water,
Air,
Fire,
And spirit gathered together.
The plants grew from the earth.
The water carried their stories into the cup.
Steam rises into the air.
And fire.
Offers its warmth.
And you.
The one who chose to prepare it,
To hold it and receive it.
Bring spirit to this ritual.
And tonight,
This cup will become an anchor.
Each time you return to it.
Allow it to remind you.
I am here.
I am this body.
I am living.
In this moment.
And before we enter the forest,
A gentle reminder.
You don't need to become a different person tonight.
You don't need to fix yourself.
You don't need to earn your way into peace.
You are always welcome to breathe naturally.
So adjust your body.
You can keep your eyes open or simply just listen.
If any breath practice feels uncomfortable,
Allow your breath to return to its own rhythm.
The forest does not ask an oak tree to become a river.
The river does not ask the mountain to become the wind.
The stars do not ask night to become day.
Everything belongs exactly as it should.
Where it is.
Including you.
So allow yourself to settle,
Feel the surface beneath you.
Notice the breath that supports your body.
The steady rhythm it has.
There's no need to change it yet.
Just notice that it's here.
It's been a companion that has traveled through every joy.
Every heartbreak.
Every ordinary Tuesday and every extraordinary point in your life.
If it feels comfortable,
Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly.
Breathe in slowly through your nose.
And release the breath through your mouth with a soft sigh.
Again,
Breathe in without forcing or feeling.
And then let your exhale become a little slower than your inhale.
Breathing in,
Noticing that you are here.
Breathing out.
Allowing the weight of your body to settle.
There is nowhere you need to be,
Nothing else you need to solve.
The path will meet you exactly where you are.
Now,
If your tea is cool enough to hold safely,
Bring your hands around the cup.
Notice its weight.
Its temperature.
The texture beneath your fingers.
Allow the cup to become the first lantern along the path.
You do not need to drink it yet,
Simply hold it and feel yourself arriving.
And as your body settles,
Imagine yourself standing at the edge of an ancient forest.
The sun has just disappeared beyond the horizon.
When twilight hangs between worlds.
Fireflies drift lazily through the trees,
And the air smells of cedar,
Moss,
And rain-soaked earth.
The forest feels familiar somehow.
Not because you've been here before.
But because some part of you does.
Remembers it.
A narrow path appears between the trees.
Soft lantern light flickers in the distance.
And you begin.
To war.
And with each step.
The noise of the outside world grows quieter.
The conversations,
The unfinished tasks,
The questions you've been carrying.
Ghost stories your mind has been whispering.
For now,
You don't need to answer any of them.
Just continue along the path.
And the deeper you travel.
Quieter the outside world becomes,
Until eventually.
.
.
The trees,
Part.
And there.
Standing in the center of a moonlit clearing is the largest tree you've ever seen.
Its roots spread across the earth like river of wood and stone.
Its trunk rises impossibly high and its branches disappear into the stars.
You notice its leaves shimmer like silver light.
As though each one contains a memory.
A dream.
A forgotten story.
And sitting amongst the roots.
Is a guide.
Neither young nor old,
Simply young.
Ancient.
Ancient in a way that mountains are ancient.
And ancient in a way that oceans carry ancient wisdom.
The guide smiles.
Welcome.
They place their hands against the great trees.
This is the element tree.
The tree remains healthy because it remembers all five elements.
The roots remember earth.
The waters remember feeling.
The leaves.
Remember thoughts.
The heartwood remembers the fire and the crown remembers spirit.
The guide looks at you carefully.
Humans often suffer when they forget one.
And tonight.
We remember.
The branches sway overhead and a door slowly opens amongst the roots.
Golden light spills outward and together.
.
.
You step.
Inside.
The passage descends beneath the tree.
The warm soil surrounds you and the scent of cedar and rain fills the air.
Soon,
You emerge into a vast underground chamber.
Roots arch overhead like cathedral ceilings and ancient stones glow softly with amber light.
The room feels steady,
Solid,
Safe.
And the guide kneels and places their hand against the earth.
Most people believe healing begins in the mind.
They smiled gently.
But every gardener knows otherwise.
And as the guide holds up the seed,
The very,
Very tiny seed.
.
.
They say.
If a seed struggles to grow.
We do not shame it.
We examine the soil.
You look around and thousands of roots stretch through the earth.
Each connected.
Each supported.
Each nourished.
And the guide gestures towards them.
Earth is everything that supports life.
The food that nourishes you.
The sleep that restores you.
The home that shelters you.
The boundaries.
That protect you.
And the body that carries you.
And for a moment.
You feel your own body.
You notice the weight of your legs.
Your hips,
Your shoulders.
The support beneath you.
Notice how the ground has been holding you the entire time.
You did not need to earn its support.
You did not need to ask gravity for permission to rest.
And the guide speaks softly.
Roots come before branches.
Support comes before growth.
And rest comes before flourishing.
And for the first time in a long time,
You stopped trying to hold yourself up.
You allow yourself to be held.
Notice the places where your body meets the surface beneath you.
Your heels,
Your legs,
Your hips.
You do not have to push yourself towards the ground.
Gravity has always known.
How to carry you there.
And if it feels comfortable.
Breathe in gently through your nose for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three.
3.
.
.
Forward.
Then breathe out slowly for 6,
1,
2,
3,
4,
5.
Sex.
Again,
Breathing in comfortably for four.
And release the breath slowly for six.
Now there's nothing magical about the numbers.
The invitation is simply to allow the exhale to be a bit longer.
Offering the body a quiet signal.
That it may begin to soften.
One final breath here,
Breathing in,
Receiving support.
And breathing out,
Releasing some of the weight that you were never meant to carry alone.
Now bring your tea towards you.
And before sipping.
.
.
Notice its scent.
Remember the soil that held these plants.
The roots that fed them,
The rain that found them.
The hands that gather them.
Take a slow sip now and notice the weight.
The warmth of the tea as it enters your body.
Let this be your earth sip.
A reminder.
I am supported.
I am allowed to receive nourishment.
Roots come before branches.
And pause and feel the cup resting in your hands.
The guide smiles.
You do not have to carry everything alone.
And somewhere beneath you.
The roots shift gently in the dark.
Not to trap you.
To hold you.
In the distance.
You begin to hear running water.
The guide rises and leads you deeper.
Soon the roots begin to open into this glowing underground river.
Moonlight dancing across its surface.
The water is impossibly clear and as you step closer,
Shapes begin to appear within it.
Memories,
Joy.
Fear.
Love.
Grieve.
Anger.
Disappointments.
Wonder.
Every emotion you have ever felt moving through the current,
Some drift gently.
Others churn beneath the surface.
But none remain exactly.
Where they began.
The guide watches the river.
Humans often fear emotions.
We try to suppress them.
Control them.
Explain them.
And escape them.
As the guide kneels beside the water.
They say.
But water has never meant to stay still.
You notice that none of the emotions remain in one place,
Each one eventually continues downstream.
Even grief.
Even fear.
An even heartbreak.
The guide dips their hand into the river.
Feelings become suffering when we build dams around them.
A tear falls into the water and instantly becomes a part of the river.
No longer trapped.
No longer stuck simply.
Moving.
The guide smiles.
You are not the river.
You are the one sitting beside it.
And for a moment,
You allow yourself to notice what is present with you now.
Not what you think you should feel.
Not what would be more convenient to feel.
Simply notice what's here.
You don't have to name it perfectly.
No need to fix it,
Or to judge it,
Or rush it away.
The water carries what's ever ready to move,
As long as you just let go.
Bring your awareness back to your breath.
In this time.
Imagine your breath moving like a small wave.
The inhale rises.
The exhale receives.
Nothing to hold,
Nothing to force.
Breathing in.
And allow the wave to gather.
Breathe out.
And allow it to return.
Another wave arrives.
Another wave leaves.
No breath stays forever and no feeling stays exactly the same and as it is forever.
So again,
Breathe in.
And let the wave rise naturally.
And then breathe out.
Letting the wave return to the shore.
Now lift your tea and notice the liquid moving inside the cup.
Even when your hands appear still,
The water responds to every small movement.
Take one mindful sip.
Follow the sensation as it passes over your lips.
Through your mouth.
And down your throat.
Notice the act of swallowing.
The body knows how to receive and release.
Without needing your constant direction.
Let this be your water sip.
A reminder.
My emotions are allowed to move.
I do not have to become the feeling in order to feel it.
The guide looks into the river.
Do not ask the water to explain itself before you allow it to flow.
You sit beside the current without chasing it downstream.
Without building a home inside it,
Without confusing one difficult wave for the entire ocean.
You let the river be.
The river.
A winding staircase spirals upward through the trunk.
And the guide begins to climb as you follow.
Higher.
Higher.
Higher.
Until you emerge amongst the branches.
The canopy stretches endlessly above you and thousands of silver leaves shimmer into the world.
As the breeze moves through you,
You realize something startling.
The leaves are speaking.
Every leaf contains a thought.
What if I fail?
Did I say the wrong thing?
What should I be doing?
Should I be doing more?
What will happen tomorrow?
What if I can't let go?
Am I enough?
The thoughts swirl through the canopy like startled birds.
Some are familiar,
Some have been circling for years.
Some sound so convincing that you have mistaken them for truth.
And the guide laughs softly.
Most people believe that they are their thoughts.
A breeze rustles through the branches.
But the trees know better.
And as the guide reaches up and catches a falling leaf,
They say,
Trees do not chase every leaf.
Trees do not argue with every leaf.
And trees do not build their lives around every leaf.
They simply allow them.
To come.
Pin to go.
And the realization suddenly settles inside of you.
Thoughts are not commands.
Thoughts are not prophecies.
Thoughts are not always messengers that must be opened.
The weather.
Some sunny,
Some stormy.
Some strange,
But all temporary.
The guide points towards the sky.
You are not the leaves.
You are the sky they move through.
And you notice that the thoughts lose their weight.
Not because they disappear,
But because you stop caring every one of them.
And the guide invites you to notice the air touching your skin.
Perhaps you feel it in your nose or across your hands,
Along your face.
The air is always moving around you,
Even when you cannot see it.
Thoughts are the same.
Now breathe in gently and as you breathe out imagine your exhale carrying one silver leaf away from the branch.
You don't need to know which thought is written on it,
And you don't need to argue with it.
The wind knows where to take it.
Again,
Breathe in.
And notice the coolness of the air entering your body.
Then release one long,
Unhurried breath.
One leaf loosens.
One thought is allowed to pass without becoming prophecy.
One more time,
Breathing in.
Noticing the thought.
And breathing out,
Choosing not to follow it.
Bring your tea beneath your nose and notice the steam or the scent that rises from the cup.
The tea meets you before you even taste it.
Earth becomes water.
Water became vapor.
And the visible.
Became invisible.
Take one slow sip.
And let this be your air sip.
With a reminder.
And I can notice a thought without following it.
And I can hear every whisper without obeying the ghost.
The canopy continues murmuring above you and the thoughts have not disappeared.
But beneath their voices,
You can finally hear the wind.
The guide leads you back towards the center of the tree and the staircase descends through a winding passages until you arrive deep within the trunk.
There.
Inside a dark chamber burns a golden flame.
It does not consume,
It glows.
Steady,
Warm,
Ancient.
You expect fire to feel dangerous and instead it feels familiar.
Like something that's been waiting for you to remember it.
The guide smiles.
This is the fire most people forget.
Not anger.
Not destruction,
Not urgency.
The guide places its hand near the fire.
This is courage.
The fire flickers gently.
This is the force that allows a seed to break open.
The force that allows a child to take a first step the force that allows someone to begin again.
The force that allows a heart to love after loss and heartbreak.
You watch the flame carefully.
It's not loud.
It's not dramatic.
It does not demand to be witnessed.
It simply keeps showing up.
Again and again.
And again.
The guide looks at you.
Confidence is not the absence of fear.
Courage is moving with fear beside you.
The flame brightens and somewhere inside yourself.
.
.
You recognize your own flame.
The part of you that survived.
The part of you that kept going.
The part of you that tried again.
And the part of you that is still here.
And if it feels supportive,
Place one hand on your chest,
Right in the center,
And notice the warmth beneath your palm.
Breathe in as though you are creating a little more room around this flame.
And breathe out slowly,
Protecting it from the winds of urgency.
The flame does not need to be an inferno.
It does not need to prove that it's powerful.
A candle can guide someone through an entire dark room.
Without ever becoming a wildfire.
Breathe in.
.
.
The flame brightens.
Breathe out.
The flame steadies.
Again,
Breathe in.
.
.
Making room for courage and breathe out.
Release the belief that courage must be loud.
And grab your teacup again.
Notice the warmth,
If any,
Remains within your fingertips and take one deliberate sip.
Allow the warmth to spread through your mouth,
Your throat,
Your chest,
And into your belly.
And let this be your fire sip.
A reminder.
The courage does not have to roar.
Sometimes courage is the warmth returning to the place that had gone cold.
Sometimes courage is beginning again.
And sometimes courage is simply staying present in one more breath.
You and the guide watch the golden flame.
You have mistaken survival for evidence that you are damaged,
They say.
But the flame remembers differently.
The flame does not show you everything that hurt you.
It shows you every moment some part of you chose to remain.
Finally,
The guide leads you upward one last time.
Past the heartwood,
Past the branches.
Past the silver leaves and past the clouds even.
Until you arrive at the crown of the tree.
Where the stars surround you in every direction.
And the branches dissolve into constellations.
The air feels vast.
Boundless.
Peaceful.
The guide stands beside you and points upward.
Suddenly,
You see countless versions of yourself.
The child you once were.
The person you are today.
Future versions of you you haven't even met yet every season.
Every chapter.
Every becoming.
You see a version of you you didn't think could ever continue.
And the version of you that continued anyways.
The version you thought were lost.
And the version who slowly learned that wandering and becoming sometimes looks exactly the same.
The guide speaks to you softly.
Spirit is not something you find,
It's something you remember.
The stars pulse gently.
You belong here.
You belong to life.
You belong to earth beneath your feet,
To the water within your heart.
The air within your mind and the fire within your courage.
All of them belong to you.
And the guide places their hand against the tree,
And for a moment again.
.
.
Release every breathing instruction and let your breath return to its own rhythm.
No counting or shaping,
No destination,
Simple breathing.
Simple Belonging.
Your body knows how to participate in life without being micromanaged every second.
Your heart continues.
Your lungs continue.
The earth.
Holds you.
And the water moves within you.
The air enters and leaves.
The fire offers warmth.
You are already in a relationship with every element.
Bring your tea towards your heart.
Holding it there for just a minute.
This final sip is going to belong to spirit.
And before drinking,
Pause and notice the whole experience.
The cup in your hands.
The scent rising toward you.
The color of the tea.
The anticipation of taste.
The body waiting to receive.
Take one final mindful sip and allow yourself to be fully present for it.
Let this sip remind you.
I belong to this moment.
I belong to this body.
I belong to life.
The guide smiles.
Spirit is not hidden somewhere beyond the stars.
They place one hand over their heart.
It's the part of you that can witness the stars and wonder.
The branches glow.
The roots glow,
The rivers glow,
The flame.
Glows.
Everything becomes light.
And you realize the one final astonishing thing.
The tree was never separate from you.
The roots are your body.
The river is your emotional world.
The leaves are your thoughts.
And the flame is your courage and passion.
The stars.
Are your spirit.
You are not broken.
You,
My friend,
Are an ecosystem,
A living landscape.
A sacred balance of earth,
Water,
Air,
Fire,
And spirit.
And the guide smiles one final time.
Balance is not something you achieve.
The wind moves slowly through the branches.
It is something you return to.
The guide begins to fade into the silver light,
But before they disappear,
They offer you one final reminder.
You do not need to return to the forest to find the tree.
The doorway is hidden in ordinary things.
A breath you choose to notice,
A surface holding your body,
A feeling allowed to move,
A thought released into the wind.
A small act of courage.
A warm cup held between your hands.
These are all doors.
The crown becomes branches,
The branches become a trunk,
And the trunk becomes roots.
The forest gradually dissolves into the room around you and begin to notice the physical body again.
The surface beneath you.
The temperature of the air.
Notice your cup.
Your breath.
You are here.
Take a full deep breath in and release with a long gentle sigh.
Inviting your awareness back into the room.
Breathing in.
Inviting small moments to your fingertips and toes.
And breathing out,
Allowing yourself to slowly return.
Roll your shoulders if it feels good.
Soften your jaw.
Perhaps move your head gently from side to side.
There's no need to rush across this threshold.
Return slowly.
And as you do,
Carry this knowing with you.
The roots remain.
The river flows.
The leaves drift.
The fire burns.
And stars shine.
All of it is waiting and has been within you all along.
You are not broken.
You.
Are an ecosystem.
You don't need to achieve perfect balance.
You only need to notice what is asking for your attention.
And remember how to return.
When you are ready.
Allow your eyes to open or gently lift from your gaze and look down at the tea you've held between your hands.
The ritual may be ending.
Now your body knows.
The doorway.
