Welcome to this meditation,
Connecting with water,
A meditation to inspire flow.
Water is the element of movement,
Adaptability,
And persistence.
It flows rather than forcing.
It responds to what's in its path with flexibility instead of resisting.
It can be soft and gentle or powerful and reshaping,
And it always remains true to its nature,
Steady,
Responsive,
And always changing.
In our lives,
Water reminds us that forward movement doesn't always require pushing harder.
Like water,
We can soften around obstacles.
We can adjust our direction when needed and trust that progress can happen through consistency rather than straining.
It teaches us to release rigidity and to stay in our own natural rhythms and to allow things to unfold with more ease.
When we embody the qualities of water,
We create space for flow,
For this effortless ease to come into our lives and where we can move through life with greater resilience and calm.
And so I invite you now to find a comfortable position if you haven't already.
You may be sitting or lying down.
Wherever you are,
Just let your hands rest easily,
Maybe in your lap or on your legs.
And as you begin to arrive in this space,
Orient yourself.
Let your gaze float around the room to interesting colors,
Shapes,
Or objects.
Maybe let your gaze enjoy interesting patterns of light or movement.
And as you orient and connect to your surroundings,
You may start to notice your body shift.
You might notice a spontaneous deep breath or any other natural body function that just signals that you're shifting down into parasympathetic recovery.
And you may keep your gaze softened on this fixed point.
Or if it feels more comfortable,
You may want to gently close your eyes and take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And fully exhale.
Again,
Inhaling and exhaling,
Letting the day begin to settle.
And once again,
A slow breath in and a long breath out.
Allow your breath to return to a natural rhythm,
One in which you don't need to control or change in any way.
And just know there's nothing you need to do or to solve for.
Right now,
Know where else you need to be.
There is just this moment.
With each exhale,
Imagine setting something down,
A task,
A decision,
Just a little piece of mental noise that keeps moving into your consciousness.
Just again and again,
Letting it go.
Allow your shoulders to soften,
Your jaw to unclench,
And unfurrow your brow.
Now bring to mind a body of water.
It might be a quiet stream or a steady river,
Or even gentle ocean waves.
Let whatever comes feel easy and just bring the imagery of this body of water to mind,
Whether this is a favorite place you've been over and over or something you're coming up with in your imagination.
As you construct this in your mind,
You might see light reflecting on the surface of the water.
You might hear the soft rhythmic sounds of that body of water.
And for a moment,
Invite your body to mirror the rhythm of the water.
Begin to sense this water inside your body.
And now imagine yourself getting close to your body of water,
Placing your hand into the water.
Notice the temperature,
The sensation of movement,
The waves.
Noticing the water just moves around what's there as you place your hand in the water.
It doesn't resist.
It just adapts to your hand being there.
As you inhale,
Imagine drawing in that quality,
Flow,
Ease,
Responsiveness to change.
And as you exhale,
Release tension.
Release the striving or the pushing.
Breathing in ease and flow.
Breathing out tension and resistance.
Imagining that this water is within you,
Moving through you,
Your body naturally flowing just as your breath is circulating and energy is moving through you.
It moves with ease and flow,
Just like water.
With each inhale,
Fresh energy enters your body,
Your organs,
Your cells.
With each exhale,
Everything's stuck,
Just begins to loosen and move through.
If there are any areas of your life that feel stuck or pressured,
That are coming to mind now,
Just notice that that's in your awareness and there's no fixing that needs to be done.
You don't need to do anything with that.
Just notice and imagine that the water continues to move through that space also.
Just steady and patient,
Just finding its way through with ease.
The water doesn't force.
It just adjusts.
It creates new paths and it keeps moving.
As you notice this movement through you,
Also notice you don't have to hold on to everything so tightly.
You can loosen your grip.
You don't have to push your way through every moment.
You can patiently wait and move through with ease because there's another way,
A way that includes flow.
Notice what softens inside of you when you consider that as a possibility.
Now,
Take a few breaths here,
Letting the feeling of flow settle into your body,
Noticing the ease,
The quiet steadiness,
But still movement.
Begin to bring your awareness back to your breath and feel your body where you are now.
Now,
Noticing the feelings and the sounds and the smells around you.
Take a moment here to remind your body,
Your nervous system,
That you have all the time in the world in this moment.
So there's no rush to move on to the next thing.
But when you do feel ready,
You may begin to gently wiggle your fingers and toes and find soft,
Slow movements that feel natural to you.
If your eyes are closed,
You may slowly open them,
Letting light begin to come in and orient yourself to your surroundings again,
Maybe even noticing if the environment looks different.
And as you return to your day,
See if you can carry this with you,
The reminder that you can move through life with more ease,
More flexibility,
And more flow.
And be well.
