Good morning.

My name is Greg McBride,

And I'm honored that you've decided to start your day with me.

Now,

Whether you're still in bed,

Whether you've had your first cup of coffee,

Or maybe if you've had your workout,

Or even completed some tasks,

Let's take a minute to ground ourselves and commit to a beautiful day,

The kind of day we deserve,

No matter what else is happening around us.

So take a minute just to sit where you are,

Or if you're still in bed,

Just lay there.

But wherever you are,

However you're positioned,

Try and think of an upright spine.

And that's true even if you're laying down,

Because we're going to focus in on our breathing.

So I invite you to close your eyes again,

Even if you're just waking up.

Or you can take a soft gaze and just turn your thoughts to your breath.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

And remembering that when it comes to our breath,

We are always present.

We can't breathe for our past.

We can't breathe in advance of our future.

The breaths we take are happening here and now,

And become a gentle reminder of staying mindful of the present moment.

So again,

Breathing in and breathing out,

And just encouraging a state of calm in your body as you get ready to take on or continue the day.

Now wherever you are,

Whether you're in a room with a window,

Maybe the drapes are drawn,

Maybe the sun isn't up,

But I want you to think about the sun right now.

No matter where we are in the world,

The sun is there and it is shining bright.

And as you breathe,

As you stay present,

As you encourage mindfulness,

Think about that sun as it relates to your heart and your beautiful heart light.

Can you feel the sun's energy?

Maybe a light shining from your heart matches the sun.

Maybe it's just as bright.

Maybe it's just igniting.

Maybe it's just getting started.

But think about the beautiful glow that comes from your core,

The beautiful light that you have to share with the world,

No matter what's on your agenda for today.

There is nothing menial.

You matter.

And whatever you have ahead of you matters.

And the more that you can do it with mindfulness and even joy,

The more you shine like the sun and show the world how to live life and become a beacon of hope,

Even in crazy,

Dire,

Challenging times.

We can find joy.

We can commit to detaching from angst and worry.

They don't serve us.

Even when we have monumental tasks ahead of us,

The more present we are,

The more mindful we are,

The more calm we are,

The more likely it is we'll come up with a solution that can really help out.

Or we might decide there is no solution in this moment,

And then we can live in acceptance.

And things will evolve from there.

This is life.

But the sun is always shining,

Even in the middle of the night,

Even first thing in the morning before dawn.

And your heartlight is always shining also.

So as much as you can,

Breathe into that right now.

Maybe picture your heartlight.

Is it a specific color?

Is it just white?

Is it luminous?

Does it sparkle?

Feel that light.

Feel your beauty.

You matter.

This world would not be the same without you.

And you can take that joy and that commitment to yourself out into this day and live life to the fullest.

Continue to breathe in and breathe out.

Even as thoughts pop up,

Just like clouds passing in front of the sun,

They keep moving.

So let those thoughts move on.

We don't have to get involved in them.

We don't have to react to them.

Even if they seem to demand our attention,

We can stay focused on our breath and on our heartlight.

Taking this time for yourself is so important.

Taking a moment to remember that you matter,

To connect to all that is important to you.

And now,

As we get ready to close our practice,

Why not set an intention for the day?

If you'd like,

It can be something specific,

Something you want to get done.

Or maybe it's something more general,

Maybe about the attitude in which you want to go out into the day with,

Or the example you want to be to your friends,

Your family,

Maybe even your pets,

Maybe even a stranger on the street.

Think about what intention you want to bring in to this morning and into this day.

And now,

As we think about our intention,

As we remember our heartlight,

And as we stay connected to our breath,

Let's get ready to close our practice by taking three breaths in,

Three breaths out.

In.

Maybe a slight hold at the top.

And out.

In.

Again,

Maybe a slight hold at the top,

A reminder of your personal space.

And out.

And a final time,

Breathing in all the possibility.

And breathing out,

Remembering your commitment to make today matter.

And if your eyes are closed,

You can flutter them open,

Or if you've taken a soft focus,

You can take in the room or space around you.

If you're sitting up,

Maybe roll your shoulders a few times.

And remember,

You matter,

This day matters,

And we're going to commit to having a good morning.

Namaste.

The suggestion of focusing on your heart’s shine, when you described it as possibly sparkling, I smiled at that, my heart also sparkled!! Namaste πŸ™

Cannot tell you how meaningful it was to be told that I matter. I am old now, and living alone with my little dog. Of course, we matter to each other but it doesn't feel the same as when I matttered to another person, to my spouse, children, and the grown grandchildren who don't need me anymore. It doesn't seem to matter to them that I need them now! Sometimes my life seems pointless, which is not to say worthless. I know my worth but what's the point without someone to share with? This practice made me believe that I do matter. I matter to myself, and that is enough. I feel like something 'clicked'. My perspective, perhaps. I will watch what happens. Very grateful to you! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’ž

Wow, just what I needed this am. I love the metaphor of allowing the clouds (thoughts) to fade away and focus on the sun shining. This will be a go to for me--added to my am practice. Ty Gregg for this beautiful meditation!
