Welcome to this reset meditation designed as a gentle way of looking at emotional numbness or emptiness.
When the world feels grey and emotions feel out of reach,
This guided session offers a safe non-judgmental space to simply be.
Rather than trying to force a breakthrough,
I want you to use these musical soundscapes and my words to help you move from a state of nothingness or emptiness back into your physical self.
If you feel like you're drifting right now,
Or if everything feels a bit hollow,
I want you to know that it's okay.
Numbness isn't a lack of feeling.
It's often just the mind's way of taking a rest when things have just got to be too much.
You don't need to force a feeling,
You don't need to be on,
For the next 10 or 20 minutes you are allowed to be exactly as you are,
Quiet,
Still and neutral.
Let's start with the smallest of things.
Feel the texture of your clothes against your skin,
Notice the weight of your feet on the floor or the way your hands feel resting in your lap.
Is there a temperature there,
A slight warmth or a coolness?
We aren't looking for some kind of big emotion,
We're just checking in gently with the physical world,
You are here,
You are solid and in one piece,
And you are safe.
Try to feel the air move past your nostrils,
Notice the slight expansion of your ribs.
You don't have to breathe deeply if it feels in any way restricted,
Just notice the life moving in and then out of you,
Over and over,
Endlessly,
With no thought and no worry.
I want you to imagine this breath as a silken thread connecting the you inside directly to the world outside.
There is no rush to cross that bridge,
Then just stay with the rhythm.
Sometimes we go numb to protect ourselves,
Let's imagine those protective walls now not as stone but as a light mist,
As the music flows around you,
Imagine that mist starting to thin just a little,
You don't have to see everything yet,
You don't have to picture anything at all,
I just want you to allow a little more light to filter through that mist.
You're giving yourself permission to be reachable again,
But at your own pace,
Your own speed.
Maybe you're beginning to feel a tiny bit of calm within that mist,
Maybe you just feel the vibration of the music,
Whatever it is,
Even if it's just the recognition of a single sound,
That is a connection,
That is the beginning,
The start.
Like the very first light early in the morning rising over the Southern Alps in Aotearoa,
New Zealand.
Those rays of light,
They start small and they flow and they spread and they grow into something real,
And slowly you are coming back to yourself,
One breath at a time.
And as we're near the end of this meditation,
Don't feel pressured to do anything with this,
You don't have to be better,
You don't have to be productive,
Endlessly ticking things off your lists,
Listen to the music and carry this weightless sense of presence with you.
You've spent this time with yourself today,
You've sat with yourself today,
And that's enough,
It's a start.
So when you're ready,
Take a slightly deeper breath and feel the space around you wherever you are,
And gently open your eyes.
