Contacting Your Essence

This meditation is intended to guide the listener back to their essence. Supporting the relinquishment of the identification of other, so as to return to the self. To provide for a remembering, and a place of peace and connection from within.

Transcript

Just take a moment right now to get comfortable in your seat or in a lying down position.

And when you're ready,

Breathe in as deeply as you comfortably can.

And as you exhale,

Gently close your eyes or drop your gaze.

And with this next breath,

As you exhale,

Begin to move your attention and your awareness from your mind into your body,

Bringing your attention and your awareness all the way down to the bottom of your feet.

And just become aware of where your feet are resting.

With this next breath now,

Begin to move your attention and your awareness to your body,

Resting on the seat beneath you.

And just become aware of that contact place where your body ends and the seat beneath you begins.

Gently now,

Move your attention to your hands and just become aware of where they're resting.

Breathing in as deeply as you comfortably can now,

Begin to move your attention to the breath and begin to notice the expansion and contraction of the belly and the chest.

As you inhale and exhale,

Begin to follow the breath now as it passes in and out through the nostrils,

Following the inhale all the way up to the top of the breath,

And then the exhale,

Following it all the way down to the bottom.

Breathing in as deeply as you comfortably can now,

Begin to bathe your body with your attention and with your breath,

And begin to imagine waves of relaxation cascading down and through you.

Waves of relaxation cascading from the top of the head,

Washing down through your scalp and your forehead,

Washing over your face and your jawline.

Waves of relaxation washing down through your neck,

Cascading across your shoulders,

And down your arms,

All the way down through your wrists,

Your hands,

And out through your fingertips.

Waves of relaxation just washing down through your chest and your back,

Washing through your torso,

Pelvis.

Wave upon wave of relaxation cascading through your hips and your thighs,

Washing down through your knees and your calves,

Through your ankles,

Washing through your feet and out through your toes.

Wave upon wave of relaxation continuing to wash down through you,

With each breath becoming more and more relaxed,

Knowing that you are completely safe here,

Completely supported,

Completely accepted.

I want you to imagine yourself now standing in front of a tall,

Empty bookcase.

I want you to gather up all of the ideas you have about who you think you are,

All of the roles that you've been given and that you've taken on.

Gather all of these ideas up and put them all on a shelf.

And your unconscious mind knows how to do this.

You don't need to worry about itemizing each item.

You just need to give your unconscious mind permission to gather up all of the ideas you have about who you are and put them all on a shelf.

And now I want you to take all of the ideas other people have about who they think you are.

Gather all of those up and put those on another shelf.

And now I want you to take all of the things that you believe you should be,

Do,

Say,

Or have and put those on a shelf.

And now I want you to take all of the things other people believe you should be,

Do,

Say,

Or have and put those on another shelf.

And now I want you to take all of the expectations that you have placed upon yourself,

Including all of the expectations of the past and all expectations of the future.

Just gather all of that up,

Put those on another shelf.

And finally,

Take all of the expectations others have placed on you and put those on a shelf.

Now I want you to step away from the bookcase and all of that stuff.

Create some space,

Get some distance,

And just notice if there's any resistance or any attachments.

Just continue to gently move yourself further and further away.

Fly to another planet if you need to so that you can experience the essence of who you are without all of that stuff.

And even if it's just for a nanosecond,

Just see what it's like to experience yourself from this perspective,

Dropping all of that stuff,

Stepping away and experience the essence of who you are.

Notice I'm curious,

Knowing that at any moment,

At any time,

In any day,

You can step away and experience the essence of who you are without any of it.

And gently now,

Just begin to bring yourself back.

Be in the room.

Notice your hands,

Where they're resting.

Begin to wiggle your fingers and your toes gently.
