Lo que aprenderás
This course is designed to help participants engage biblical texts that undergird the ideas and practices of Advent. Advent is a four-week season of anticipation, reflection, and preparation leading up to Christmas, commemorating both the birth of Jesus and the hope of His coming again. It is a time for Christians to awaken their sense of wonder, deepen their longing for God’s presence, and cultivate practices of hope, peace, joy, and love. In this course, we will focus on spiritual awakening—learning to recognize and respond to God’s movement in and around us. No matter where you are in your journey, renewal and hope are always possible through intentional engagement with the Spirit. I am excited to journey with participants; each session will include a prompt and guiding questions for reflection and conversation.

Lección 1
Isaiah 9:1-7
Advent begins with a promise spoken into the dark. Isaiah’s vision of light breaking through reminds us that hope is not denial—it’s defiance. When the world feels heavy with fear or futility, God’s promise still flickers, calling us to believe that peace is possible. This track invites you to listen for that light and let it rise within you.
Lección 2
Psalm 130
Psalm 130 is a cry from the deep places—the moments when we can’t fix, hurry, or explain our way out. It reminds us that Advent begins in that same darkness, where waiting becomes holy work. Like a watchman leaning into the night, we wait not wondering if the morning will come, but when. This track invites you to discover how even in the depths, God’s mercy is already drawing near.
Lección 3
Isaiah 11:1-10
Advent invites us to look for life where everything seems finished. Isaiah’s vision of a shoot growing from a dead stump reminds us that God’s renewal often begins beneath the surface—quiet, unseen, but unstoppable. This lesson helps us explore how hope takes root in barren places and how the Spirit’s peace reshapes the world from the inside out. As we listen and reflect, we learn that even in the stumps of our own time, something green is already stirring.
Lección 4
Luke 1:46-55
Advent invites us to listen for God’s movement in unexpected voices. Mary’s song rises from the margins—a melody of courage, reversal, and joy that begins small but reshapes the world. This lesson helps us see how faith is more than belief; it’s the courage to say yes to God’s transforming work in and around us. As we enter this passage, we’re invited to magnify the mercy already stirring within our own ordinary lives.
Lección 5
Isaiah 40:1-11
Advent begins in the wilderness, where God’s first word to the weary is not command but comfort. This lesson invites us to listen for that tenderness and to discover how compassion leads to movement. Isaiah’s call—prepare the way of the Lord—asks us to clear space, both within and around us, for God’s renewing presence. As you enter this session, may you hear the voice of comfort rising in your wilderness and find courage to make a way for hope.
Lección 6
Luke 1:67-79
Advent reminds us that silence is not the absence of God but the space where new faith is formed. In this lesson, we meet Zechariah—a man who finds his voice again, not in explanation, but in blessing. His song becomes a bridge between longing and fulfillment, showing us what it means to praise God even before the promise is complete. As we listen and reflect, we’re invited to let our own waiting become worship and to trust that the dawn is already breaking.
Lección 7
Revelation 21:1-5
Advent doesn’t end—it unfolds into renewal. This final lesson invites us to see how God’s promise stretches beyond Bethlehem toward a world made whole. Revelation’s vision reminds us that God’s story is not about escape but restoration—love dwelling among creation, making all things new. As we close this journey, may we recognize that the waiting of Advent prepares us to join in that ongoing work of renewal.

This is very profound. I was overcome by the depth that Jess goes into the scripture he chose. I'll listen to these again and again.
