Let's now take a moment to relax,
Just making yourself nice and comfortable.
Perhaps you are sitting in a chair or lying on a bed.
You can start to become aware of all the sounds around you as you start to relax and yet you'll still be able to focus on the sound of my voice.
This is a moment for you,
A moment to breathe out the stresses and strains of the day and breathe in a sense of peace and calm.
Whilst you listen to the sound of my voice and the sound of the music,
You can remind yourself that right here,
Right now,
There is nothing for you to do except to listen to the words.
You can be aware too of your own thoughts and if you find your mind wandering,
That's fine,
Just think about the next thing I say.
You don't have to listen in any special way.
This is a moment for you to relax,
You'll be in complete control.
There is nothing you need to do,
Just focus on the words.
It's fine if you move around a little,
Cough or fidget.
It's a bit like listening to a story on the radio.
Movements won't affect your ability to hear,
Your skill is just to listen.
I want you to imagine that your body is starting to relax.
Imagine the feeling of relaxation that's starting from the top of your head and then moving down your face as the muscles in your forehead are starting to relax and your eyes may comfortably close.
It's fine if you open them again at any time but you'll notice the muscles in the rest of your face relaxing too now.
Focus your attention on the muscles in your neck and shoulders.
You can often feel tension here,
But right here,
Right now,
No one wants anything of you,
No one expects anything.
And you can begin to feel those neck and shoulder muscles relaxing,
Your shoulders may even drop slightly as the muscle fibres loosen,
Lengthen and relax.
Starting to feel more comfortable now.
And that feeling of your muscles relaxing starts to travel down the tops of your arms,
Spreading its relaxing waves all the way through your elbows,
Muscles relaxing,
Settling down.
And from your elbows all the way to your wrists and your hands.
Imagine stress leaving through the very tips of your fingers,
Feeling more comfortable now,
Focusing on your breathing just for a moment,
Not trying to change it,
Just noticing the gentle rise and fall as you breathe in and breathe out.
And that feeling of being relaxed,
Calming waves travelling down your legs,
Thighs,
All the way to your knees,
To your shins and calves and all your leg muscles settling.
And you are starting to feel even more comfortable now,
Relaxing all the way to your feet.
And as you are slowly relaxing there,
Listening to the sound of my voice and the sound of the music.
It can be so comfortable to allow your mind to relax too,
To allow your thoughts to drift and float.
Nobody wanting anything from you,
Nobody expecting anything of you.
Just let your imagination drift.
Imagine now that you are standing at the top of the staircase in bare feet.
The staircase is covered in a beautiful carpet which feels soft and warm.
Its thick luxurious texture feels so comfortable beneath your feet.
There's a hardwood rail by the side of the staircase and your hand rests upon it.
You notice its cool smoothness under the palm of your hand.
Imagine that sensation of stepping down onto the step below,
Your hand gliding smoothly along the rail.
Noticing the softness of the carpet as you step down again and your eyes are drawn to the colour of the carpet.
And you notice how much you really like this colour.
Stepping down further,
You may not have thought of this as the colour of a furrow carpet before,
But right here,
Right now,
In this moment,
It seems perfect.
Perfectly relaxing.
Stepping down again,
Your hand gliding smoothly.
You wonder how you would describe the colour of this carpet.
Is it a vivid shade?
Or perhaps muted?
Perhaps a pastel shade?
It feels like just the right colour for right now.
The warmth of the carpet beneath your feet makes you feel restful and the colour breeds tranquillity.
You notice there is a corridor at the end of the staircase and you're curious to know where it leads.
Noticing the carpet's colour again,
You step down,
Calm,
Comfortable and you see that the corridor is carpeted in the same colour.
You step down into the corridor and there is a door at the end and you walk towards it.
You calmly push open the door and find yourself in a room.
A room that just exists in your imagination and is perfect for you.
There is a comforting sofa where you can really relax and you sit or lay,
Sinking into the soft malleable cushions and your mind wanders,
Wandering into a dream.
And you dream about how lovely it would be to see the sunrise from a beach,
To see the sky slowly changing colours,
To see the dawn of a new day.
How beautiful a sight that would be.
You dream you've planned just to do that.
You have made a plan to achieve your wish,
To see the sun large and low in the sky.
You choose to make this wish a reality.
You plan for your success.
You stay in a house so close to the beach and before you go to sleep,
You listen to the distant sound of the waves.
And your last thoughts before you drift off into slumber are knowing that you are on the right path to fulfilling your wish,
To see the dawn rise over the ocean.
You have set your alarm,
Lying in bed,
Visions of your wish soothe you into a peaceful,
Relaxing sleep.
And then you are awoken by the soft trill of your alarm.
The bed feels warm and cosy and you wonder if you should stay where you are.
It's dark and cool in the room but you are focused on your wish to see the dawn and you realise you have all you need to make your wish a reality.
Today is the day.
You are ready to make a change in your life.
In this moment,
You choose to see your success.
And so you remember your plan.
You realise you do have the resolve to do this.
That you are stronger than you thought,
Calmer than you realised.
You are confident enough to do this.
You take this one step at a time.
Happily you dress,
Sitting on the side of the bed.
Your fingers are clumsy and slow.
You realise you are following your plan.
A thought that you can't is soon replaced with one that says,
I can and I will.
And you think about your plan.
It's your plan to see the sun rise.
This is something you want to see.
Something you've decided to do.
So you persevere,
Imagining the sun rise in all its glory.
Imagining your success.
And as soon as you are dressed,
Hat,
Coat and gloves too,
You step out into the night.
The cool night air is blowing gently against your face.
Then you look up and are captivated by the clear night sky.
Thousands of stars stud the velvet midnight blue of the sky.
Like glistening jewels of brilliance.
Names flood into your mind.
The Great Bear.
Orion's Belt.
Cassiopeia.
It doesn't matter whether you know which one is which.
And the names match the mystery and majesty of the stars.
And you are captivated by their brilliance.
You are in this moment.
You are achieving your aim.
Surprised and pleased by the unexpected,
Powerful,
Rising feeling within you.
As you stand under the myriad of stars.
The air is crisp,
Cool and fresh.
Slowly you start to walk,
Using a torch.
And you walk forward,
Picking your way carefully along the path.
You focus on the sound of your footsteps on the wooden broadwalk.
They seem loud to you in the silence of the night.
Each step vibrating the wooden boards and that sound reverberates around you.
You walk forward and the broadwalk now gives way to a soft sand.
The sound of the sea is louder now.
The gentle lapping of the waves as they ebb and flow onto the shore.
And you sit for a moment and take your shoes off,
Enjoying the feeling of the sand.
The soft,
Silky coolness beneath your feet and you feel free and relaxed.
And you stand and start walking again towards the water's edge.
It's a little harder to walk on the soft sand,
But it feels so pleasant.
And so you feel that you are on the right path and nearing your aim.
And noticing the wonderful feeling of achievement and peace that's growing inside you.
You are in the process of achieving what is best for you and seeing the sunrise over the sea.
You are walking towards your wish,
Walking towards the sound of the sea.
You are closer to the water's edge now and you sit again,
Running that cool,
Soft,
Silky sand between your fingers.
The air is cool too,
But you are comfortable,
Well dressed,
Well prepared.
You planned this well.
The sea is reflecting the midnight blue of the sky,
Which looks like velvet and the sea glistens like satin.
You look towards the horizon,
A faint line of azure blue is just visible and you can see the promise of the sun.
Dawn is coming and so you take a last look at the stars in the sky,
The diamonds on velvet above you and look back at the shimmering sea.
A line of silver is slowly spreading out from the horizon.
Below that is a band of azure blue,
The line of silver is changing now to the palest gold and straight in front of you,
A bright band of gold glistens.
Here,
As you watch,
A small crescent of peachy gold peaks up over the horizon,
Growing in size and growing in brilliance.
It is just as you imagined and yet somehow it is also more beautiful.
Close to the shore,
Closer to you,
The blue of the sea starts to lighten.
The midnight blue ocean is turning a beautiful azure blue with shades of silvery blues that slowly become shades of pink,
Peach,
Rose and shimmering gold.
The warmth of the colors seem to envelop you and now you see the sun rising into the sky,
It seems to be showing you the promise of a perfect day.
You breathe in the salty tang of the sea air,
The sights and sounds of nature are all around you and you feel at peace with the world,
Your vision,
Your success,
Your achievement seems all laid out before you.
This is something you've always wanted to see,
The new day sun is now large and low in the sky,
Casting its golden glow on the ocean.
You planned to do this,
To see the dawn over the sea.
When the moment came,
You kept your vision in your mind's eye,
Picturing what this moment would look like.
You used it to sustain you through getting up in the dark,
Stepping out into the cold dark night,
Knowing that you could choose the thoughts that you choose to listen to.
Thoughts in the mind are like sounds are to the ear,
Some we listen to and place value on and some sounds we choose to ignore.
And you now feel confident enough to know which thoughts to place importance on,
Now you find yourself in this perfect place with its vivid colours,
The start of the sun's rays warming on your face,
The coolness of the sand trickling through your fingers and you feel proud,
Proud that you've achieved what you set out to achieve.
This beautiful sunrise may seem to last only a short time in reality,
But actually it lives on,
It lives in your memory,
Just as it lived in your imagination before,
The glorious sunrise is now in your mind.
Just like a lovely holiday photo,
The memory is a treasure,
A treasure ready to be taken out and enjoyed again and again,
And thinking of the colours of the sky,
The large orange sun glowing and rising and the colours of the deep ocean spreading out in front of you,
Reminds you that you have depth to your character too,
That you have the strength you need.
Sometimes you have felt that it has become a little hidden by the cares of the day,
But now when you think of the serene sunrise,
The sound of the ocean,
The depth of the sea and the expanse of the sky,
Your strength is rising again.
You feel a sense of achievement,
A sense of calm growing within you,
Whenever you think of this sunrise picture,
You are aware of your mind's powerful ability to paint a peaceful picture,
This resource is yours,
Always there for you to use.
Feeling calm and relaxed,
You stand and walk on the soft silky sand,
The new sun warming your back and lighting your way,
As you walk towards your new day,
Your new start,
Bringing those feelings of being calm,
Confident and in control back with you.
You are in charge of what's best for you,
You are in complete control and your skills of being determined and strong minded are growing stronger and stronger and will continue to grow throughout the rest of the day,
