Have you ever noticed that sometimes feeling calm actually makes you more anxious?
It sounds strange,
But it's incredibly common.
When you've lived with anxiety for a long time,
Your nervous system becomes familiar with being on high alert.
Stress starts to feel normal.
Familiar.
So when your body finally begins to relax,
Your brain sometimes interprets that calm as dangerous.
It says,
Wait.
Or missing something.
Then,
It sends you another anxious thought.
Not because you're in danger,
But because.
.
.
Your brain has learned to associate.
Vigilance with safety.
This is why healing can feel uncomfortable at first.
Your goal isn't to force yourself to feel calm.
Your goal is to teach your nervous system that calm is actually safe.
The more often you practice staying with moments of peace.
Instead of questioning them.
The more your brain begins to update expectations.
Healing doesn't always feel peaceful in the beginning.
Sometimes healing feels unfamiliar.
And unfamiliar isn't the same thing as unsafe.
Your nervous system can learn a new way of being.
Keep practicing.
And be gentle with yourself.
