Welcome to the Inner Clinic series.
This practice is for when anxiety shows up in your body.
This is a short practice for those moments when anxiety shows up in your body.
You might feel this as tightness,
As restlessness,
A sense that something is not quite right.
But before you do anything,
Just notice,
This is anxiety.
You are not doing anything wrong.
Your body is responding the way bodies do.
Now gently,
If this feels comfortable for you,
Bring one hand to your chest and one hand to your belly.
Or,
Bring your hands to wherever feels like a grounding place for you and start to notice your breath.
Without forcing it,
Just slowly lengthen your exhale.
Inhale and a slightly longer exhale.
Again,
Inhale and a slow,
Extended exhale.
Let the exhale be a signal to your body that it can soften,
Even slightly.
Now gently,
Look around your space and silently name three things you can see and two things you can feel.
First of all,
You are here and safe enough in this moment.
The sensation may still be there,
But it does not need to take over.
Anxiety can rise and it can pass.
You don't have to get involved in the story and you don't have to push it away.
Stay with yourself and know you can return to this anytime.
