In part 1 of this series, we introduced the foundational attitudes of Mindfulness.
Sharing how they are far from binary ways to label our behavior. And the vital importance of the first 3 which we encounter so often in our Mindfulness practice - Beginner's Mind, Non-Judgement, and Acceptance.
Over the next 3 days, we’ll continue to explore these deeply meaningful foundations of Mindfulness. And how they positively impact our lives, work, and relationships.
And through everyday stories and practical scenarios, we'll share techniques, mediation, and moments of insight to bring them to life.
Together we'll:
- Introduce Trust, Patience, and Non-Striving and their role in living and working more mindfully
- Explore real-life scenarios where we might use them. And the cost when we don't!
- Share practical real-life situations, practices, and meditations you can return to daily to embody them.
This will be a course and series you can turn in if you want:
- Relatable insight into the Attitudes of Mindfulness and how they can support you, loved ones, or those you lead.
- Inspiring ways to bring more meaning, vitality, and mindful connection into your life
- Simple and repeatable meditations and walk-through guides, to rewire your brain for healthier habits
We’ll learn to label less.
When we are “Living and Leading with a Mindful Attitude"
I look forward to meeting you on Day 1.
Derek Hill believes in creating opportunities for genuine connection, with ourselves, nature, and each other. Supporting people to look inwardly, with self-compassion - helping them uncover their inner resources for self-support and purposeful direction in life.
He is a mindfulness and compassion teacher, speaker, and coach, accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). He teaches 4 to 8-week courses, including Jon Kabat-Zinn's gold standard "Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction." He works with individuals, groups, and organizations to inspire greater happiness, health, and human connection in life and work.
He has coached and mentored people for 20 years in high-stress corporate environments, as well as purpose-driven ‘technology for good’ organizations like JustGiving and Farewill, where he spent many wonderful years working with not-for-profit organizations. Derek is sincerely committed to helping others realize their potential, creativity, and fundamental connection to self, others, and the universe.
Derek moved to London from his hometown in Dublin. His early life in Ireland colored so much of what he had learned throughout life. Having graduated in creative writing, he always found great inspiration in the books of others, whether fictional, philosophical, or those challenging conventions.
Throughout his professional career, where he enjoyed the highs and lows of working abroad, growing businesses, and making a purposeful impact, there was always a pull toward the traditions and philosophies, which inspire his work today. A few life-changing events and an ever-growing personal commitment to meditation practice, finally nudged him to retrain as a mindfulness and compassion teacher, picking up a CPCAB-accredited Level 4 qualification, as well as training to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
Derek then redesigned his life around a passion and purpose, so he could sustainably support his health and well-being and that of his family. He founded his company Waking Waves to make this possible and is now on his mindful mission to share the benefits of mindfulness and compassion with others, so they can too!...
Lektion 1
Investing In The Wisdom Of Trust
Today we explore the personal meanings we might associate with 'Trust' and the crucial role it plays in Mindfulness. Both within and without.
We come to terms with the fact that 'Trust' must be placed in ourselves, more than any expert or external knowledge. How by honoring and learning from our own felt experience, we can enjoy the benefits of this attitude.
To bring this to life, we'll walk through 3 everyday scenarios - in meditation, at work, and in a relationship - to familiarise and practice the attitude of trust.
Lektion 2
Practicing A Little Patience
In today's session, we reflect on how we build 'impatient' life habits and tendencies. And how by cultivating mindful patience instead, we can learn to let life unfold.
We'll share everyday situations where we typically 'lose' patience and apply simple mindful strategies instead. Ones that help us respond more supportively to those we live with, lead, or collaborate with within our organizations.
And to close with a short body scan, being consciously patient as we move our attention from head to feet.
Lektion 3
Reaching Your Goals Without Striving
For our final day, carrying on from yesterday's 'Patience' we explore how this can feel at odds with our modern culture of goals, business objectives, and striving. How even when we reach our goals - a brain adaptation means that our appreciation and enjoyment can be short-lived.
So together we'll mindfully explore 'Non-Striving', choosing 3 scenarios for 3 typically striving leaders, caregivers, and athletes. Share how they might use this powerful practice to rewire their brains for less stress reactivity, more appreciation of their achievements, and more self-caring going forward. More empowered to achieve their goals!

Very helpful as always. These concepts seem so familiar, but it’s surprising how we just get caught up in lives and forget to focus on these important things. Very well put by Derek in these 3 sessions.
Feeling grateful for these reminders! 🙏
