The Introducing Mindfulness course is built on the framework of the original Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) program. It is for use in everyday settings, offering a taste of 3 key MBCT themes and practices, and exploring how these can support us personally and more broadly in our life/work context. Part 1 focuses on the what and how of attention. ā€œAttention is one of my most important resources, but I’ve never valued it before.ā€ (Shannon Harvey from her film ā€œMy Year of Living Mindfullyā€). You can expect to learn: - Learn what mindfulness is and isn’t through an analogy of attention - Explore how we can train our attention to support us in everyday life - Try some short mindfulness practices (research-based) to train our attention and enhance our awareness
Patrick Kozakiewicz is trained, certified, and supervised to teach this course alongside the family of other Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy courses. Over the years, he has taught this Introducing Mindfulness course over 120 times to a total audience of 3000+ while receiving very positive reviews and improvements in key areas around well-being...

Lektion 1
Attention As A Gateway To Experience
Exploring the what and the how of attention, the theme for today, as well as, the working definition of mindfulness we will be using throughout this course and the analogy of the flashlight of our attention.
Lektion 2
Body Scan
We will briefly scan the body, including practicing with the filters and lenses or the attitudes of mindfulness = curiosity and care. We will do this to train our attention, to notice the mind wandering, and to become more aware of our attention and I guess our bodies too.
Lektion 3
Anchoring Attention
Here we are going to be learning and exploring how we can train our attention on the go. How we can practice placing our attention on something that is in the present moment such as the feet, the seat, the hands, sound or the breath. Using an anchor to keep our attention in the present moment.
Lektion 4
Negativity And Appreciation
In this lesson, we will learn how most of our attention may be going to negativity. And we will work to counter-balance that with more awareness of this mechanism in addition to practice around appreciation.
Lektion 5
Summary And Home Practice
Here we will summarize the lessons from Part 1 of Introducing Mindfulness and share what you may wish to explore as part of your home practice. This will be through some short and practical ways one can integrate mindfulness into every day.
