When you are feeling comfortable and at ease with yourself, you are better able to see the possibilities that Life is offering you. On the other hand, when you are living under pressure, you are more likely to see limitations and obstacles. One of the many ways that you are putting pressure on yourself is by making comparisons. When you are caught up in busy thinking that is flavored by comparing, you move away from your natural feelings of comfort and ease. In this course, I am going to gently point you to look away from the pressure of comparison and toward the present moment and all of the possibilities that are uniquely yours to discover.

We Innocently Learn To Compare Ourselves
In this first session, we will explore how making comparisons is a natural part of being human, and how it is something that we learn to do in childhood. It would require a lot of effort to stop making comparisons, and it would ultimately be fruitless. I just don’t think your brain can stop comparing. Let’s dive in and see just how automatically we compare things in our lives.

Comparing Yourself To Others
In this session, I am going to build off of the end of the previous session and talk about how you compare yourself to other people. This is so innocent, common, and definitely part of being human. However, it is just not necessary to add pressure on yourself in this way. While making comparisons may be human, adding pressure by making meaning out of these comparisons is optional. You do not need to take comparisons seriously, and this is where we are going to focus our exploration to help you see something fresh.

Comparing Your Current Self To A Previous Version Of Yourself
Now we are going to look at a very sneaky way that our minds make comparisons. Do you ever catch yourself comparing yourself to a “you” that existed in the past and that was a lot better at something? This has cropped up in my own life, and I am looking forward to telling you more about it.

Comparing Your Current Self To A Future Version Of Yourself
As we have seen, our minds love to compare. Who is the GOAT? Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Serena Williams, or Simone Biles? Who is better, the “you” who is here today or the “you” who will exist in five years? Your mind has so much fun projecting a future “you” who will be so great if only your current self can make certain things happen. It’s wonderful to have goals, but it is not helpful to put pressure on your current self to achieve them.

Looking Forward With Hope
In our last session, I am going to reiterate that you don’t need to try to stop comparing yourself. I am trying to help you to feel less pressure, not more. It’s natural to compare yourself. However, making meaning out of these comparisons and taking them seriously is optional. I want to point you in a direction that will help you to feel more at ease around the pressure of comparisons and a deep feeling of gratitude for who you are.
